The story so far wants to treat her as an ignorant fool who got what she deserved but it isn't doing a good job at it as the punishment is unrelated to the crime.
It's not entirely unrelated; she was a nepo hire who was taken on specifically because of her relationship with the MC. Her ability to do the job is never particularly addressed, so the default assumption would be average - not bad enough to be worth mentioning, but also not good enough to be worth mentioning. In other words, she's replaceable and the reason she was hired no longer applies.

The issue with that is she was established as a nepohire retroactively while not being bad enough to warrent being one. What I mean is, as you said, she's average at her job. Thus the owner has no logical reason to fire her and only does so because she's involving personal feelings. That is unfair, which doesn't work for unsympathetic villians as unfairness generates sympathy.

The story making the ex fail in her endevours no matter the circumstances makes it feel spiteful. As the MC had no direct hand in this, it makes feel even more spiteful as the world is going out of it's way to screw over the ex while the MC remains pure. The story is having it's cake (bad things happening to the ex no matter her actions) and eating it too (pure MC). It's this that causes me to view this development as wish fulfillment.

Pretty obvious it's not a logical reason dude, it's an emotional one. She made it blatantly clear she hurt someone very important to the boss, the very person who was the only reason she was considered, so now the boss don't want her there anymore. It's not an issue, it just seems like you're trying to make her into a computer and not a person.

I mean … if her role model has an adventurer for a husband, and said role model loves him very much, you'd think that Kaori wouldn't look down on adventurers as a profession, no? I like seeing her catch karma's hands raw, but both her bias and her failure to grasp what Maria's saying very obviously honestly felt rather … idk, hamfisted?

Unless of course if this is just the beginning of her fall, in which case I'll just get seated with another round of popcorn.

Also, Kaori cucked her role model's "kinda" adopted son. The man her husband gave up his life for. Yeah as a nepo hire that isn't gonna end well for you.

My issue ISN'T that it is an emotional reason. My issue is that everything to do with the punishment (besides the action to warrent it) was rushed. The fact that the ex was only hired/fired due to nepotism that was established in this very chapter.

If the nepotism was established earlier on then I wouldn't mind this reveal. If the relationship of the owner and the MC was actively shown (as in they had more than one actual scene together) and built up, instead of a short flashback, then the firing would be more satisfying.

it's true that mc didn't speak much about how much he made but it's mostly on her cuz she was too much impatient and was already looking for someone else while being with mc
in short it's good that she got filtered from his life, she wasn't a good one
Even if he didn't directly mention how much he made, he was taking her to this world's equivalent of Michelin Starred Restaurants and saying "order as much as you want of whatever you want," and she thought "he's taking me to all-you-can-eat buffets."

As Maria proved in this instance with her "story" that was, while vague, absolutely enough evidence to say "wait, is this about me dumping MC?" for anyone with more than two brain cells. Kaori is a one brain cell girl.

MC could have done better about communicating with Kaori and noticing she seemed dissatisfied with him. But, if that's 10% of the problem, 90% is Kaori having a smooth brain

Ok. Her boyfriend didn't blacklist him, only her friend did but that's beside the point as her boyfriend ONLY got demoted despite his actions (firing him) being much more devastating. The gf cheated on him and publically humiliated him sure, but I do not think that someone else fucking with her job is a satisfactory conclusion to that as (besides the owner knowing him) the MC had no hand in the action nor was there any build up to the result.

First off, she was a bystander to her boyfriend's action of firing the MC. She did not play an active hand in either his firing nor his blacklisting. So her cold attitude towards the whole incident is cold but it is not unemployment worthy.

Secondly, she does not value adventurers but that isn't inherently evil as it is the same as a family member saying that electricians aren't valueable and that he should be a lawyer instead. Sure she's a bitch about it but again I don't find it satisfying when a THIRD PARTY enacts "revenge" for the MC. Especially over the gf just being a gold-digger.

I am not upset because a woman is sad. I am upset because someone got disproportionatly punished for the actions they took. I would be happy with this result if she was playing an ACTIVE role (telling the bf to fire him) in him losing his job rather than her just being an ignorant ride-along about everything. The guy who came up with the idea AND executed it only got demoted. Hell, I would even be happy if it was the MC himself who got her fired because at least then he could be characterised as a bit petty and it would give him more depth.
You're upset that she was wrongfully terminated, when the person who wrongfully terminated her flat out admitted it was wrongful termination? Did I get that right?

You ain't wrong on trying to call Karen's top a sports bra.
It does looks like a crop top, her top is more of a sports bra instead due to how tight-fitting it is compared to crop tops
It's a sports crop top. You see female athletes wear them in hot weather pretty often.

Yes, if you want to be reductive. However, my bigger issue is that the story did not build up to the wrongful termination nor would the MC's and ex's actions, besides the break up (and even then the ex was passive when her partner screwed over the MC), would lead to her being terminated. Thus the story made the owner do it because she disliked the ex which feels unsatisfying as the owner was a background character up until now.

Right. So, a few things:
This isn't Kaori's downfall/faceslapping, it's the beginning. More satsifying stuff happens later.

You seem to think Kaori shouldn't have been fired, and you're absolutely right. By all accounts, including the author, this is wrongful termination. She is a competent worker who the owner fired for personal reasons. Is that fair? Absolutely not. The owner even said so. It's not meant to be fair or logical.

Kaori didn't directly fire Reito and she wasn't involved with his blacklisting, but she cheated on him, and let her new BF fire Reito unjustly. If you sit there and watch as your SO breaks the law and don't try to stop them, you're an accomplice. She didn't pull the trigger, but she didn't try to stop it either.

While her only directly malicious action was cheating, and she didn't deserve to be fired over that. The story never once claimed "Kaori deserved to be fired for this." and in fact said the opposite with "even if you bring this to court and ruin the brand, I will never forgive you." It's entirely a personal action by the owner.

Even if it isn't the final downfall, I dislike how passive the ex/the MC are in causing it.

I get that it is supposed to be not fair. However, it still rubs me the wrong way that something unfair happened to the ex when the ex is supposed to be unsympathetic. If they had more build-up/development of the owner then I wouldn't mind it as much.

My issue with that is that the new BF got off best when he did the worst actions of everyone. The ex broke up with him. The ex's friend blacklisted him (after he got fired). Both got fired over it. The BF only got a demotion.

To me, that isn't the story saying "the ex didn't deserve to be fired". Rather, since the owner is associated with the MC and the MC is shown to be a good guy, the story is saying her actions are so bad that the MC's friends are willing to ruin their lives in order to get justice/revenge for it. I find that sentiment a bit too overblown for her because the only direct action the ex did was cheat and she was passive when people were fucking with the MC.

Well, all I can say is neither of them are done being punished/receiving karma. Kaori's doesn't stop until she recognizes that what she did was wrong and then she gets a minor redemption similar to the receptionist friend has. Kaori's BF never takes accountability and continues receiving karmic retribution, or it's implied he does.

So, if Kaori's situation feels unjustified now, you're going to hate the rest of this arc because her whole deal is "she cheated and doesn't recognize what she did as wrong because he's just a boring lowly adventurer," and until she realizes how kind to her he was and how actually happy she was with him and regrets her actions things get worse and worse. Which may rub you the wrong way for the rest of their arc.

The later "villains" are, as far as I read in the WN, actually irredeemable trash and you shouldn't be bothered by unjustified retributions

Ok. I hope the later downfalls are plotted better than this one.

If she does anything stupid/idiotic and gets punished for it/ if the people punishing her are actually built up as actual characters then it should be fine. I just hated this one as it felt overblown and overly mean when her/the mc's actions weren't linked to it after chapter 1.

If the later villians do stupid/evil stuff and get punished by the affected parties then it should be fine.

So he started adventuring because of her, started earning, got a mentor and father figure AND lost said father figure while dating her and she doesn't even know all this!?!? She's beyond saving
At this point it’s on him. Dude refused to tell her shit. He’s gone all the time for long hours (in dangerous work with a high enough mortality rate that she thought him getting banned was a good thing because in her eyes he was straight up going to die on the job. And he probably is if his mentor was remotely as strong as he was) to the point that she had time to get seduced and start a whole ass new relationship with zero hints while also maintaining a full time (japanese time) career. Every chapter just breaks out new ways in which her not knowing makes no sense without him actively cutting her off from every aspect of his life and we’re supposed to be outraged at her not knowing shit about him as a result.

As for her not rubbing her braincells together to figure the story was about her dumping the MC? This has to have been weeks afterwards. She isn’t thinking about her ex at all. It’s easier for us to figure out because we have the overall plot. She probably heard that story and thought it was a good thing she got him out of that deathtrap of a career.

If this scenario of a partner being kept in this much complete ignorance was relayed to me elsewhere I’d be thinking she was treated as some sort of fancy pet like a stepford wife.

I’m normally against automatically blaming the man but at some point one has to question if they were even in a real relationship.
