the thing I don't like about this is the withholding of information. By that I mean, the protagonist getting information in a fucking puzzle. You a higher being is contacting ME to do your bidding, the least you could do is give me clear instructions/information of the task at hand. not to mention, when it's time for the critical info they give you the old "ahh looks like we ran out of time" mf are you serious

It's hard to feel invested in this because the whole turbo cancer thing came about due to Alan deciding to take a gamble on the mass that formed in his liver on the off chance it let him talk to god. Iris told him they don't know what it is and it was seemingly manipulating him and he said nah it's all good.

I'm also not really invested in any character other than Alan since previously no one else was really allowed to take center stage. The original novel has been on hiatus for like 4 years, could the writer really not figure out in that time that if they planned on sidelining Alan they should actually invest in other characters to take his place as the lead?

Not a defense for this manga. Messages from a higher being are often vague. In mythology, it's often portrayed through a medium / priest(ess) and given a vague prophecy that usually "technically" fulfills itself.

In Call of Cthulu plots, direct contact would vaporize a person, put them in a coma, or drive them mad.

Now, the problem in this manga is that it's been downplaying the religion by using space tech subversions on the superstitious population.
