On the subject of Saki, it's clear that she struggles to handle her sexuality and believes that she is impure (this is probably due to internalised homophobia). She'll have to get over that. I hope we start the dating arc now! 🤞❤️

To be honest, when Saki was going on about what they would do when dating, her love being different from Kanon's, and being impure, I thought she was about to admit that she wanted to have sex with Kanon. Then this panel came up:

And in the split second before my brain was able to register that it was middle school Saki standing behind herself, I thought that she was going to blurt it out with maybe Rinne or Kanon's mom standing there. We managed to avoid an awkwardness nuke.

Anyways, Kanon clutched tf out of this interaction.

Saki is still a child in school, and a girl who's a lesbian on top of that, struggling with very intense internalized homophobia.

She perceives everyone as out to get her because of this, especially in the case of Mahiro, but her perception was challenged when she actually met her again.

I don't this it's at all "too exaggerated" for someone like Saki to feel like she's truly feel as conflicted as she does, because her worldview has almost been completely shattered.

You can obviously see the progress being made here: she realized her Mom wasn't actually being dishonest or hiding things from her, then that Mahiro just wanted to be closer with Saki, and finally that Kanon also loves her. Saki never imagined any of these would contradict what she's always believed, so this chapter is the culmination of that, where she is coming to terms with the fact that she is the only one who's been holding herself back the whole time.

So, yes, Saki has been exaggerating a lot, but it's important because it's the climax of her self-actualization not just about her feelings for Kanon but also everyone else around her that she projected onto. This has been built up for a while during this arc so I don't think it's really out of nowhere, either.

she's just lucky that Kanon is a keeper.
Saki always has been projecting, even after what happened with her friend, and then her mother, she still seemed stuck in that mindset.
and sure she is a child, but Kanon is being so mature, and she's the same age as Saki.
it's not an excuse.

i'm just glad the self-sabotage didn't go any further, the moment wasn't ruined, thanks to Kanon.
so hopefully we can conclude that and look forward.

the last two chapters have generally felt a bit extreme to me, or is it just me who thinks that Saki is completely exaggerating way too much?

I think if you've never experienced the self-loathing that comes with being a closeted gay you might not understand how absolutely soul crushing it can be. Just speaking from my own experience here but I really relate to Saki, the feeling that there's something fundamentally wrong with the way you are can really sabotage your relationships (even the non-sexual ones).
