Also it's not like no one was willing to take over the world - it's just that our logistical and administrative capabilities have limits. We need to jump technological level one more time and then we can probably form world government.

Oof that was too real, all the fear-mongering of some "other" group by those in power - no matter the country right now - just to keep us under the boot of those who have all and still want more.

Was not expecting modern commentary in this one, but he ain't wrong.

The one who most push towards an authoritarian, absolute ruleship with themselves at the helm is, without fault, the least fit to such a position. For they lack a critical characteristic inherent for a successful rule: trust in the fellow man and in the institutions who ensure such trust is not misplaced.

But yes, Ludwig sounded like a commentary of current political climate with one single mistake: the nations and their people are stronger than that, and all that empty populism and authoritarian delusions? We've seen it before and know how it ends. It will NOT happen again. Minneapolis is an example.

It was really unexpected that they started talking about our own world, it makes sense that by the end of 2030, something like that could happen, and I was interested in what the author wanted to say about it.
But the villain being a moron who thinks a single supreme dictator could possibly solve any problem is so dumb. It would be way worse for a single governing body especially one led by a single person to rule the entire world. I hoped he would have a better idea.

Also another break? We just got out of a break, and this arc is already so goddamn long too, I'm pissed. 3 goddamn years and 5 volumes so far already and it feels like the end is still far off and the breaks just make it even worse.

All very dramatic but didn't make much sense. He's saying autonomy is bad, and then he argues that globalization destroyed Earth. How is globalization the end result of autonomy? It's the end result of oligarchy and denying self-determination. Also the world united under a single ruler has never been done? Alexander, Rome, Gengis Khan, Britain.

The argument isn't "autonomy bad" but "separate states will always seek war" in the sense of Warring States of China/Japan vs their respective unified countries.
It's also not exactly "globalization ends autonomy" but rather "globalized capitalism leads to global oppression", or thereabouts, I think.
"it's never been done before" is a poor argument to suggest it can't or shouldn't be done, however.

All that aside, I guess I'm not entirely surprised that this series is taking this political angle that it seems to be holding, but I worry that it'll come off a bit too half-baked or jump to immature conclusions. Or, worse, position this new Big Bad as being comically inept or evil and so undermine the conflict of ideas as presented here.

True because its leading to a world power but keeping the political divisions as well keeping the power of the state weakened, we seen with Mastercard recently because the state lost control over payment services.

As for unification within a single nations, eventually we will get there but even with current technology it would be very hard ... the problem is that is a resistance due to natural interests to get there, look at the EU for example ... it "works" but have deep issues such as a common defense policy or even the US that today have deep divisions because even if there is a strong common sense of national identity, when it comes to details things arent as clear cut anymore.

Also I dont think he Emperor is right because the issue is ... he is mortal and no matter how good and capable ruler he is, it will eventually break apart, a unification needs to come from a strong desire like what happened in Italy and Germany or from a system that gets too complex and useful to be torn down, the the EU.

Its kinda funny as I do see and actually agree with his point since naturally humanity will drive into a unified front as Kai "self-determination" is naive and self-defeating ... but the system needs to be robust to survive and that requires the people to accept it, not something forced unto then.

"BEHOLD, my bright plane that no fool has ever concocted that will bring peace everlasting... WORLD DOMINATION"... if I were Kai at that moment, I would have simply shot the fucker... I have no doubt the guy is prepared for such an outcome, but even then... what a load of horse shit... not actually, it is even lower than that, you can turn shit into fertilizer with the right treatment, what he is vomiting is pure acidic waste.

He has the shamelessness to say that like a thousand assholes haven't tried exactly that.

The only fair sacrifice is the one you make of yourself, he is just another narcissistic psycho drunk on his own hype and willing to drown the world in misery so that he can live his fantasy of heroism.

Now... one thing that has me worried now... the authors of this manga always had some weaknesses as far as writing goes, and one of those weaknesses is the... "go big or go home" bad habit many writers fall into, and by that I mean the "Gainax syndrome" or better known... "let's go to space" syndrome.

I actually like that in this world the connection to Earth's is... "unfocused"... it can bring things from many different times and that can have interesting effects, it brings some question even to how "magic" works here too... but... with this explanation, and Ludwig's crazy "plan", this is a hint that in last stretch of this story... we may have a "let's go to space" moment.

Mind you... such moments are not automatically bad; there is a lot of nuance, for example... Kill la Kill came after Guren Lagan, and so many think the "go to space" moment in KLK is already weak (or at least one of the first signs of the syndrome), but I watched KLK first, and I think the build-up for that moment, despite being in no way perfect, was earned and fun.

I point that out because... when I take these authors' past works, and let me be clear I still like all of them very much, I piece a pattern that leads to a pretty clear and damning picture.

Now, again, mind... I think in this series they have been putting the effort into treating that exact weakness, so i will stay open-minded. Despite this story having its weak points, I have been again and again surprised by the fact that it isn't falling in the same pitfalls they fell into in the past.

Actually, I wonder if he has some idea on how to sidestep or overcome that issue.
It sounds like he has access to an isekai person who came from sometime in the 22nd Century, or further.
We've seen that happen, when someone had been isekaied from a far future time, and they had constructed a laser pistol and left it behind.
So maybe he's assuming that he'll either become immortal, construct an incorruptible AI overlord, or what he actually intends to do is set off the Eugenics Wars and the various atrocities that Earth suffered in order to get to the Federation from Star Trek.
