What do you mean, I see no problems whatsoever with this perfectly rational writing:
"- Let's have a duel!
- Sure
- btw there's no duel, kill yourself or lose
- Guess I'll lose then
- Great, now a completely unrelated property of a different person is mine"
Also I'd assume invading territory of a high-ranking noble of the kingdom (and kidnapping his staff member) would constitute an act of war, but I guess the story has become far too retarded for such measly things. How far the mighty have fallen, it's a shadow of its former self, and definitely not because of the new artist.
And this, dear viewers, is why reading comprehension matters. If you dont have it you might end up like this guy, who read angle as angel and complains why there are suddenly religious ideas in a story about math.
For your information, it was set up from the very beginning that the holy tree is so unbelievably powerful that the republic could win a defensive war against literally the entire world, while they are in its sphere of influence. They can do whatever they want without fear of retribution, as long as they have a way to get back into their countries borders. And because every country knows they would lose if they attacked, the scum in the republic can get away with literal warcrimes whenever they want and the countries are forced to let it go.
It was also set up that the tree's blessing in the six great families is so great that they can easily force circumstances around their deals, contracts and bets to follow the ideas of the members for those families. The tree doesnt care that Einhorn was never the five idiots or Maries ship, it only cares that Pierre said he won it by defeating them, only that he did indeed defeat them in some way.
Edit: The circlejerk here is impressive. Clearly-not-having-read-the-story-properly-man and his likeminded hivemind all agree with other, and when they are told exactly why the things happening make sense they call the guy who calls them out dumb.
