i need context
  • On the second panel the guys said that he didnt buy comdoms because it was embarassing to do so
  • The translation on the last panel is kinda difficult as she feels apologetic for making him a rapist, but translating it word-by-word would be something like: I'm kind of sorry, that I made you a rapist

The title's closer to: "A Story about a Boyfriend who Gives the Impression that He May Have Not Taken Care of His Hygiene At All and May Have Relentlessly Read Ero-Manga".

I took too long to decipher this title.

There's a possibility I'm about to give too much credit to this mangaka, but they have a work that's currently being serialized that is extremely well received on this site, so it's probably worth the risk. It's also possible that I'm wrong. Either way: I think the comic being a singular page and having no context is meant to stimulate discussion on what's happening.

As for the narrative itself, I think this is supposed to be a vignette about two teenagers whose expectations have been heavily skewed by media, but find that the same fictional templates playing out in real life have an entirely different feel and mechanism. It's obvious this is the case for the boy, but I also think the girl is similarly affected while suffering different results.

The girl's expectations are shaped by manga-- she figures that inviting a boy to her room would elicit a mood for sex, and expects that sex would necessarily follow, but is surprised that she doesn't actually want to have sex despite the set-up being familiar to her (that's what I get from her internal monologue in the first panel, anyways).

Part of that is doubtless because she's reacting to the way that the boy is moving; having his expectations skewed by ero-manga (as per the title), he acts like a fat bastard while probably not minding his hygiene (according to the title) or his girlfriend's protests. In ero-manga, it's not uncommon for one character to "inflict" sex onto another rather than for two characters to "have sex", and it's not uncommon in those scenarios for the fact that one party was violated to be obviated in the narrative by 1) the fact that they come to enjoy the sex midway or in retrospect, or 2) an indication that they were never in distress to begin with. This all also occurs with a provocative and scenaristic flair, without clearly indicating how "ugly" and injurious rape often is.

Pornography in general contributes to shaping the minds of men and women to objectify their partners, using them as tools to achieve sexual satisfaction without considering their needs-- regardless of whether they intend to harm, or care about whether they do.

The girl taking partial responsibility for "turning her boyfriend into a rapist", despite his lack of blaming her for any lack of self-control and without her referencing anything that she did to be clear, nothing would justify rape, may be a reference to the glamorization of the lack of sexual restraint male leads have when interacting with heroines in media (pornographic or otherwise). The appeal, in fiction and imagination, is that one is seen as so attractive that others can't restrain themselves with them, leading to them seizing such a person.

Also potentially implicated in the girl's taking partial responsibility is the idea that men are slaves to their sexual urges; while degrading to men, it also degrades women by proposing they bear responsibility in "provoking" men to rape them.

I was expecting a story about a teenager addicted to masturbation and porn. And leading to his death by masturbation or something. Not this crape.

He's trash. The story also isn't much better than he is.

I agree completely with your points:
  • The way he said the first one in Japanese, he was actually making an excuse は?だってゴム買うの見られんのはずかしいし~ "Huh? But it's embarrassing to be seen buying condoms~", and that implies he didn't buy any (it makes sense that most rapists wouldn't use condoms anyway and being the scumbag that he is, he's certainly one of them) Furthermore, in the next bubble he's saying super rapey BS like 言うってそんな簡単に妊娠なんてしいひんし大丈夫やってwww 怖がりかわい~なぁ"You say that but you can't get pregnant so easily anyway. C'mon, it'll be fine lol. You're so cute when you're scared~" This ties in to the alternative translation of the title, about him not listening in health class (sex ed) and insisting it's fine without condoms.
  • She's kinda blaming herself but yeah, it's difficult to translate. My take on the second point is: "I kinda feel sorry for you... that I'm turning you into a rapist"

The 保健 (Hoken) "Health" part of the title isn't about hygiene, but Health Education, where sex education comes in. He totally didn't listen to any of it. Which is why he's insisting they do it without protection. It also ties in to the part of the title about his porn manga addiction, because that's where he got his "sex ed" and not in class.

I was not expecting a one-pager.

Also, it seems like the author, Onodera Kokoro didn't have a great experience growing up. There's this oneshot and another manga she's doing where there is a train molester.

The mental health sector in Japan is so bad that people are making manga instead of going to therapy.

Mostly understood... though, まくった is perfective, and まくる doesn't seem to have an intrinsic implication of "addiction"-- or, is that how it tends to be used in common speech?

With what you're saying about how to understand 保健, it seems like 保健全く受けてなくてエロ漫画読みまくった implies that he didn't pay attention in health class and he instead read a lot of ero-manga (as if to compensate for his lack of sex ed). Like, "he had his nose in the books" for this very moment, but they were the wrong books entirely.

Yeah, maybe I shouldn't have said porn manga "addiction" in my comment but stuck closer to the alternative title, "does nothing but read porn manga". So for まくる in this case I'd pick "over and over" or "to do continuously" as the intended meaning. I did think the current English title is way too liberal of a translation of the Japanese title.

Yes. The title is saying that he gives off the impression that he didn't listen at all during sex ed lessons in health class and he learned everything he knew about sex from porn manga instead.

He doesn't seem to have any apparent hygiene issues as shown, it's a (lack of, or incorrect) sex education problem in his case which makes more sense given he insists on not using protection, since he made excuses why he didn't buy any (it's embarrassing) and why he shouldn't use it (he thinks she won't get pregnant easily).

Funnily enough, there was a post on some forum, might've been Reddit(I saw it as part of a YouTube video),where someone was talking about a US sex ed class where the teacher actually bothered to be helpful and even did research to make follow ups on question.

As for getting pregnant through a single random instance of internal ejaculation, the teacher found it to be roughly 1/3.

So make sure to get four rounds per session for all those wanting to make miniature versions of yourselves.

Of course, the other aspect of condoms then becomes even more important, preventing the catching of nasty bugs that either one might be carrying,if not straight up infected by but just didn't know it,which they then inflict onto the other.

This is especially important for those who love that forbidden backstory action, diseases just love living that natural human compost after all.
