Okay let's be a little fair here- Hikari and Yami didn't even know each other when Yami and Yuu had a thing he doesn't know Yuu did that "prank" and it seems Yami initiated that kiss not Yuu
There's no point trying to reason with some people in the comments of this one from what I've seen while lurking in the previous chapters lol. A lot of them either have staggeringly little reading comprehension, are children who have zero relationship experience, or are just straight retarded. Or all 3. It's the only explanation I can come up with for why some people still support Yami lol.

Tbh I don't see any pairing here that'll actually work with the way it's going. (Yuu + Hikari could work, but I don't think the author has the writing ability to make it so. Too much actual communication would be required.)

Well, well, well... So Hikari really isn't delusional like Yami's simps always claim, huh?

That said, I'm not sure what to make of this chapter. Honestly, it caught me off guard a bit. Still, I stand by my take—Hikari really needs to move on from Yuu and cut ties with Yami for good.

Also, it's not shown in the manga, but in the novel, Hikari says the kiss between Yuu and Yami happened 30 minutes before she and Yuu started dancing. So yeah, Yuu didn’t stick around with Yami for long. Here’s an MTL of the novel chapter:

Chapter 37: Confession

A Saturday in late September.
The gymnasium was filled with such lively brightness—heat, smiles, and a sense of liberation—that it almost made you forget the heavy rain outside.

Yuu: “W-What, there's a cheek time and everything…?”
Hikari: “Come on, don’t get all flustered now!”

(TL note: "Cheek time" is a playful term used in some Japanese school settings, especially in fiction like anime or light novels, to refer to a segment during a school dance or festival when slow dancing—usually cheek-to-cheek—is encouraged or expected.)

…………

…………

The post-festival dance party was just as lively as ever.
Even though Ta-kun and I joined in the middle (and he wasn’t even from our school), we quickly blended into the crowd and had fun together.

Eventually, as the night festival neared its end…
The upbeat music suddenly shifted to a moody ballad.
Half of the people who had been dancing wildly retreated from the center of the floor, leaving only a few couples—pairs of boys and girls holding each other close.

Yeah. That was the situation we were in just now.

…………

…………

Yuu: "You’re pretty calm, Hikari…"
Hikari: "Am I? Maybe you’re just overthinking it, Ta-kun."
Yuu: "Seriously, you’re as cool as ever, Hikari."
Hikari: "There you go again~"

Yeah… I’m surprised too.
I am pretty calm.

Dancing this close to him, right in the center of the floor, under the gaze of so many classmates—I never would’ve imagined myself doing this before.

I’ve imagined this moment so many times before…
But in all those daydreams, I was always nervous and stumbling over my own feet, making him sigh in exasperation, only for him to gently lead me in the end…
I was always a little clumsy, but a happy girl.

Hikari: "Ta-kun… you really have gotten taller."
Yuu: "Told you, that’s the only way I’ve surpassed you."
Hikari: “That’s not true at all…”

It’s not just that.
Not just his height—his arms around me, the chest I sometimes brush against—they’ve grown bigger, stronger.
That change, the fact that I can feel it now, makes me happy.
So happy I could forget everything else… but even then, I can only forget for a fleeting moment.

No matter how much I try. No matter how much fun I pretend to have.
No matter how close I get to him. No matter how we dance, pressed together.
It’s all just a way to block out what happened thirty minutes ago.
I was running away…

Hikari: "Ah…"
Yuu: "What’s wrong, Hikari?"
Hikari: "…Nothing. It’s nothing."

At the edge of my vision—
Amid the cheering classmates, Haru was waving with a smile.
Next to her, Yuki was grinning, pointing toward the backstage area with her right hand.

Right… If the plan’s going as expected…
That’s the “spot,” isn’t it?

To them, this moment is all according to plan—everything’s going just right.
They must be so excited right now, even though it’s not about them.
But I… I’m the only one who can’t get into the mood.

…Am I really the only one?
Then what about the boy in front of me?
And what about her…?

"…!"
"Huh?"

Suddenly, the lights in the gym went out, plunging the dance floor into complete darkness.
Ta-kun let out a small, confused noise—but no one else did.

After all, this was just a few seconds of thoughtful staging by the student council…
It was a “tradition” at our school.

Hikari: "Ta-kun, this way."
Yuu: "H-Hikari?"

I took his hand and led him to the place Yuki had pointed to.

His hand was slightly damp with nervousness and confusion.
But still, he followed me without resistance, letting me guide him.

…………

…………

Yuu: "This place is…"
Hikari: "Yeah, it’s kinda messy, but bear with me, okay?"

The place I led him to was backstage in the gym.
Equipment from the earlier stage events was scattered everywhere, leaving barely any room to stand, but I couldn’t afford to be picky.

After all, it was at least separated from the gym floor by a door, and because it was such a mess, it was the kind of place no other couples would use.

Yes, the school tradition where the student council shows some “consideration”…
It referred to this moment, right after cheek time—the so-called confession time.

When the lights went out on the floor and came back on, a few couples would be gone.
No one asked where they went. No one pried about what happened. That was the unspoken rule among the whole school.

…Or so I thought, but… I was wrong.
Near the door leading back to the floor, two heads peeked out from behind some equipment.

Damn you two… Haru and Yuki…
I should’ve known better than to expect them to just help out and gracefully disappear. That kind of considerate best-friend move was never in their nature.

Well, I guess that’s just how they are.
They’ve always pretended to support my confession, but 80% of it was just for their own amusement.

And yet, the one who truly supported me the most…
The one who would’ve pulled off that considerate best-friend move… was her…

Yuu: "Hikari…?"
Hikari: "Ah—s-sorry."

No, no—I can’t.
The second I let myself think, I get dragged right into the dark again.

I can’t think about that right now.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance, isn’t it?
The culmination of everything I’ve I’ve built up over today—no, the past six months—of feelings and effort.

Hikari: "U-um… Ta-kun?"
Yuu:"Y-yeah…"

Looks like he figured out why I brought him here.
Well, it’s pretty obvious, so of course he did.

"…………"
"…………"

The boy in front of me looked… nervous.
Way more flustered than I’d imagined, like he was completely wrapped up in his own thoughts, holding his breath as he waited for me to speak.

Why, though?
After what he did… why?

"…………"
"…………"

Hey, seriously… why?
Why are you waiting for me to say something? You’re the one who…

Hikari: "…!"
Yuu: "H-Hikari…?"

No good…
I’m gonna cry before I can even confess.

Behind him, two shadows moved exaggeratedly.
Probably screaming "Say it! Just say it already!" in their heads.

But… I can’t.
Not after what I saw today…

Hikari: "…We should go back."
Yuu: "Eh…?"

Holding back tears, holding back my feelings, I manage to say only that.

There was so much I wanted to say.
So many feelings I wanted to share.

And yes, even a few things I wanted to ask him, maybe even confront him about.
But right now, I can’t sort out how I feel.
No matter what he says, no matter how I answer, I don’t think I could accept it the right way.

Hikari: "Sorry for dragging you somewhere like this… Let’s go, Ta-kun."
Yuu: "…Wait, Hikari."
Hikari: "Eh?"

And yet…
Even though he’d just been standing there, waiting for me to talk—

Yuu: "Then listen to me."
Hikari: "But it’s already late…"

Had he realized something from my behavior?
Or are his feelings just stronger than mine right now…?

Yuu: "There’s something I have to tell you. Right now."
Hikari: "It doesn’t have to be today… We can see each other anytime, right?"

Our timing—our emotions—are out of sync.
When I want to speak, I can’t.
And now, when I don’t want to hear it, he’s trying to make me listen.

This isn’t how it’s supposed to be.
Right now, of all times, I don’t want to hear about what happened back then—

Yuu: "I’ve… liked you for a long time, Hikari!"

But…
What came out of his mouth at that moment—
Was the one thing I’d waited so long to hear.
And the one thing I didn’t want to hear right now.

…………

…………

Shirosaka Hikari, age 16…

Was confessed to by him.

Thanks for the chapter!
the emotions feel so much more raw in the novel version. thank you for sharing this

We both know that is not going to happen. Hikari is going to act like nothing happened and will probably start leaning to him again. Then we will get some more drama again. Who knows, he will fuck Yami again and Hikari won't say jack shit. She hasn't said anything yet despite everything. Absolute cinema.
Damn you really like cuck porn huh

Why are people raging against him?

You can be in love with someone and date others.
He dated the other girl before she even knew her.
The ex is most like the one who initiated the kiss.
As for the lie about what he was doing, if he's in love with this girl, it's a little awkward to tell her that "Yeah, my ex just kissed me."

BRO, WE SAW YOU KISSING YOUR EX. THERE IS NO SINCERITY FROM YOU. GET STUFFED
Gonna defend the series here real quick. We have no Idea exactly what ended up happening in that classroom yet.

If anything it looks like Yuu has actually taken a huge stride in character development that we don't know of yet. It looks like it.

Yeah i honestly do not get the people who are so adamant that yuu is the worst person ever. Like yeah, some obvious misteps, but totally redeemable ones(especially considering hes still a kid)
I think they, along with the people who call this manga garbage or whatever might just still be in shock from the twist in chapter 21.

Even if Yami initiated, dude stood there for a whole ass chapter, so unless can freeze time, or has the strength of hulk, i see now reason why he wouldn't be able to break free or have avoided it altogether, if he just randomly confesses after that 😐

Also, sure she doesn't know but from reader perspective he's complete garbage

He's so adamant about how much he loves her and decides to confess, but never made an effort and instead slept around with a (at that point) stranger he met sitting at some roadside

And saying "She didn't see him that way", doesn't really hold much weight considering he never tried in the first place
