The more I read this the more I just want Aesir to just be able to live a happy life. I love all the slow moments and the time he spends getting to know these people even though I know just a few chapters from then they'll probably be dead and buried. But then you get ripped right back into the unfair nature of life and the cruelty of the living. It hurts, but its not a bad pain, its bittersweet you know?

iirc it's in the story that high elves are spawned bybthe world tree, so that could imply they don't need/have the urge for sex.

EDIT: I was thinking of the wrong series, the high elves in this one originated from god (one of the first 5 creatures), and a comment below mine mentioned they do actually procreate, so whoops

Pretty normal for elves to have no sex drive in fantasy, if they did they would outnumber humans 10 to 1.

Maybe, maybe not.

Probably a mix between not wanting to get into a relationship with someone who will die in a relatively short time, and not wanting to get with someone who worships him as a higher being. Humans are the former, and many elves are the latter. Also, considering his wanderlust, he'd probably avoid most of the other high elves who do nothing but live in their idyllic forest all their lives. Not sure what type of person he'd have to meet that he could spend a lifetime with and treat as an equal.

Don't forget that a High-elf takes almost a century to fully mature and even now our boy still looks like late teens at best, despite being in his third century. If any romp he has ends up with a kid, that'd be a toddler for decades and then a child for almost a century. His adopted fast growing son already took nearly half a century to rear into an adult, now imagine him traveling with a half-high elf and maybe with some elf blood mixed into it...
Aesir doesn't seem the type to risk encounters until he is ready to settle, which is very responsible of him. Add to that the different mentality of being a high-elf and he probably doesn't have that high of a drive. Not to mention he hasn't really had that kind of encounters. Only Kaeha so far and I bet he very early realised that cross-species romps would be quite painful for him and we can see the near-hit is still very painful to him.
Any romance this series'll have, will most likely be much later in his life, or with another long living one. I am guessing it could be Irena, but we might have not even met his future partner yet. Heh, maybe we are about to meet her, once he arrives in his homeland. Anyhow, I seriously doubt we will have another mayfly-December romance, since it was already (kind of) done with Kaeha. Actually, I have a feeling we might get some kind of romanceish in the Deepwoods. My prediction, the other high-elves trying to tie him down with an arranged partner.

Speaking of partners... he might have grandchildren in the West soon.

He doesn't really, though. Remember he's a high elf, not a normal elf, so his only peers in aging are other high-elves, not normal elves. And the whole series started because he doesn't really get along well with the high elves, because they're too lackadaisical due to their long lifespans. So there's not really anyone he can have a normal romantic relationship with.

High elves really don't think much about love and sex, coz they only view their lifetime as high elves a temporary state before becoming spirits. They still get partner and have children though, or else the whole race would go extinct.

The high elf elders usually pair whoever get along with each other, and the couple will go along with it just because why not. They also don't have a concept of family, so children are raised by the community as a whole.

Spoiler: In Acer's case

He already had a "fiancée" assigned to him back in his home forest, though she'll only be mentioned once when he returns to search for the Phoenix. The high elves in this series have a very laissez-faire attitude to life, so the elders never force anyone to follow the command if they don't want to. Remember that when Acer left, nobody tried to stop him at all, and when he eventually comes back, they'll let him in without any fuss.

That being said this chapter could not have any more setup an event where Wynn and his allies/friends are on the backfoot/in mortal danger, and our MC comes in like an angry demigod to kick ass and lend a hand. Wynn doesn't need his dad, but that doesn't mean his dad can't help, kind of a thing. If that doesn't happen I'll be disappointed.

Also this is the manga that one manga about an immortal shape shifting thing  wishes it was

The way this manga plays with time and how little significance it truly has for Aesir is fantastic.


Seeing Wynn all grown up tugged at the heart so well, especially when we saw him feigning strength to try and not even surpass, but just to approach the accomplishments of Aesir in his mind.

No. I think we're all worried about Wynn cause he's clearly going through some very traumatic exxperiences in his desperation to change The West. However, I think Aesir getting involved would be the opposite of helpful for him at this stage. Sure it might lift his spirits briefly and it would definitely keep him safe physically. Afterwards though he'd plummet into a deeper pit as he began thinking he was useless without Aesir. Couldn't live up to Aesir. Yada yada...Wynn is doing his best and that's good enough as it is.
