In a good way, or a bad way? I thought it was harsh what the mother said, but in my mind it seemed trans postive? I'd love to hear your thoughts.
It sounded like terf shit at first to me, but she did clarify her position to be something I'd agree with. I hope our protag does continue wanting to be a girl though, it's an interesting inversion of the typical arc of these manga.

If that's the case then why are most trans women lesbians, and trans men homosexuals. It's not the body that dictates sexuality, it's straight up just a correlation with sex at birth. If there was a way to change someone's sexuality then homophobes would've found it by now, but since not even growing body tissue using different hormone balances works, nothing will.
That isnt true. It's that the rate of bisexuality is massively greater amongst trans people. So it very much isn't a correlation with sex at birth, the proportions are way off.
Hormones absolutely can change your sexual preferences, completely aside from how being trans kinda liberates you from a lot of gendered preconceptions. It did for me and many others. Sexuality is pretty complicated.

Thanks for your input. I have to say I was really clenching my teeth like "uhhhh uh oh" til the mother clarified her position lol.
I don't read this genre generally, so I don't know how these stories normally go, but this seems like a pretty intense look at the "gender bender" trope.

The same research and real-life experiences also noted that physically, biologically, and anatomically people have the same sexual preferences after changing genders. There are FTM and MTF who end up being gay and liking the same sex. So having a new body and still liking men is 100% possible. It is hormones and other factors, such as preference, experiences, etc.
You cannot change sex in real life. Injecting hormones and applying cosmetic surgery is not the same thing as magically changing sex overnight down to your genome and growing a new set of privates. IRL nothing is done to your brain, where as here that has also undergone changes.

I liked the beginning since the struggles of just suddenly switching genders is interesting but don't really care for the surgery part since it would just be like putting a hole in you rather then a new organ. Interesting that the mother does imply that a little though.

This is some complicated shit. There is a TON of problematic takes in here about gender and gender affirming care, and honestly I think it's well done.

That might sound weird, but for those of us with a case of the gender it's a goddamn journey. You have been unconsciously and consciously force-fed a metric tonne of harmful radioactive horse shit about gender before you even begin you properly formulate a sense of self.

It's a SLOG to wade through all that garbage.

This manga is that slog. Whether the work is actually good or not... I'm not sure. It kind of depends on how it ends. There is a lot of room for it to go badly.

If you come here to read don't expect something fun, and don't expect something "right" (whatever that means). Expect a journey.

If it is true to life, there is a really happy ending on the horizon. Nobody is as happy as someone who has finally figured out to be fully themselves.

If it ends in tears and fire, well, given cultural oppression around gender expression, not a huge surprise.

I probably won't finish this, because it makes me so incredibly uncomfortable.

If it makes you uncomfortable to read this, you are probably doing it right.

Good luck out there kiddos.

I'll give this one an eight point it's complicated it out of ten points.

the whole suspense about senpai's brother was that he was the captain of this other team?

I was hesitant to pick this manga up, but peeking at the latest chapter, seeing her have a paranoid spiral that at the hint of attraction towards someone, the terrifying idea that no one is going see you as human after they find out the truth about your biology, is such a relatable experience for me as a trans girl, I felt so seen. She has the exact same irrational fears as me, this author has either done a ton of research, is a trans person, or has somehow made the world's most trans-relatable premise on accident. I'll definitely read more of it.

You just permanently become the opposite sex like that? Sounds really fucking tough.

I'm liking this so far (as of 5 chapters) because MC isn't pulling some bullshit "oh I can't tell anyone about my situation" crap. MC is actually communicating with her friends about her problems and she's also reacting realistically too (as in, I would prob have the same reaction as her if I physically changed gender one day).
Yes, the trope "I have to pretend nothing happened even to my closest friends who should immediately realise" makes no sense, unless the transformation is slow and the victim does not realise immediately what is exactly happening
