Asahi wants closeness, but the moment it becomes real, he reframes it into guilt and impossibility.
That final exchange about “have you ever truly fallen in love?” becomes even more important with context.
Kanefumi may realize:
- Asahi’s feelings are real,
but also:- Asahi still doesn’t fully understand what it means to consciously choose this kind of relationship.
This explains why Kanefumi keeps trying to pull away even while emotionally engaging with him.
I just can't take it seriously after the knife incident either, yet somehow, I can't look awaythis manga is tragedy upon tragedy that at some point you gotta laugheveryone having a sobbing story starts to become funny, i'm so desensitized
Yeah that was wild, and it was early too, it really set the tone of shit going off the handleI just can't take it seriously after the knife incident either, yet somehow, I can't look away![]()
I don't get what Kanefumi is thinking with the "what if you want to have children one day with the person you love?" Like, is he thinking that because Asahi is bi? Because like... Kanefumi is a gay man. He is never going to be able to have children with the person he loves. So why is that not a problem for him? Like him thinking that seems like he thinks that nobody should be gay because they can't have children with their partner.
How did he enter a bar as a minor?
That's honestly wild, since AFAIK Japan has a HUGE problem with declining birth rates and lots of single young people. Seems weird that the cultural expectation and pressure is still for that, when it's just not happening for so many people.he still thinks of asahi as bi or "straight guy who's curious" but other than some internalized homophobia or not caring about kids himself, japan's still pretty traditional to where having kids and marriage is still the norm
(although i wonder the legality of someone adopting a kid as a 'single dad' versus some kinda surrogate agreement)

I guess the older generation are great at sticking their heads in the sand and ignoring the problems facing the younger generation...
Is adoption not an option for same sex couples in Japan? Surely its not the pregnancy aspect they're sad they're missing out on. As far as I've heard, that + giving birth is kinda ass. I guess there's the whole blood related component if they're obsessed with the idea of passing on their genes instead of just having a legacy.
Genuinely curious how the foster system is outside of America.
When it comes to Japan's desire for more children, what the legislatures really mean is 2.5 kids being raised by a housewife while her husband works himself to death in the office. Anything other than that ideal is ignored or dismissed. Is adoption not an option for same sex couples in Japan? Surely its not the pregnancy aspect they're sad they're missing out on.
