He could do much more good if he lived longer. That man is a warrior saint (he care for justice and the people more than glory and wealth) and not a crazy war monger. In history, after his death, he didn't appoint any of his sons to be his successors. They fought civil/brother wars and his clan came in rapid decline

I shouldn't but the way Nagayoshi laughed at Shizuko was hilarious, that said:

Want to know the simplest and most effective way of convincing Shizuko to be more careful? Don't bother convincing her of the dangers that she faces or how valuable she is...

Instead, remind her of how powerful the Oda clan is, especially her own troops, and convince of her of the rampage and collateral damage that her forces would do just to exterminate her would-be assassin. Literally convince her that the country would erupt in a bloodied frenzy if she were murdered.

Heck, Nagayoshi already proved that he can be incredibly savage to those who he perceives as an enemy. Imagine if he were acting with vengeance as a goal...

it's not about belief
it is just that the life here is too comfortable to live compared to when they lived in Hongan-ji temples (or most of the villages outside of Shizuko's influence, which results in the spies deserting/not reporting back.

Well, yes. Even though the scorching of their temple made Oda infamous enough to be known as 'demon king', these monks are known to be pretty goddamn corrupted, enough to warrant their burning. They did all kinds of debauchery. Their force is more of a political power rather than simply a monastery teaching buddhism.

Hmmm... the suggestion about Shizuko carrying a sword... that... actually makes sense.

She clearly had thought it out about what the enemies might do to her, and she has already made preparations for that... but she is misunderstanding something.

Even if she has countermeasures for her death that would make it too much trouble for no result... they still would go after her, not even out of resentment... but pure pettiness.

If I understood it right, the religious sects during this period were particularly corrupt with their tendencies, and they used belief and superstition without any shame... like when they used those "holy objects" to block roads.

Just look at the monk's internal monologue... he talks like this bountifulness is something bad, that it is just "vain pleasure".

So I think it would be best for her to have a personal weapon... doesn't need to be a sword (don't think she is very good with those), considering she already manufactured lever rifles, she can make a revolver.

I feel too that internal problems may start to appear, the other Oda lords are starting to bicker because of petty grievances, nothing big really... but these things can escalate quickly... and Akechi still worries me.

At this point in history, the religious institutions were UNBELIEVABLY corrupt.

IIRC, Oda didn't despise religion in itself, but the people who were controlling it for their own interests.

As a little reminder of the things they did here in the story (that I wouldn't doubt they did in real life), they use portable shrines (I forgot the name) to block roads, because touching those without being some sort of priest was considered an affront to the gods.

But somehow, their using it as roadblocks was justifiable.

The Hongan-ji isn't doing this because of belief... they are doing this because Oda wants to make a reform in how things are run... especially in how he wanted to completely cut their political power.

Hmmm. Shizuko may be technically correct about her death no longer being relevant in the long-term (I suspect she's grossly undervaluing herself), but it sure as shit would be relevant in the short-term. The Oda forces would suffer a massive morale loss if their miracle worker got murdered.

And by morale loss I mean lose their shit.
