They're going to need some kind of specialized projectile or magic if they want to use a trebuchet to hit a mobile, flying target. Trebuchets can be very accurate but you can't aim them quickly enough for a moving target.

It's either going to need some kind of air-burst munition or something similar to flak (just FILL the sky with sharp bits).

His ballistae can already launch the exploding barrels of shuriken at least half a kilometer away. I can't wait to see how the trebuchet shakes things up. Bigger barrels going further for wider spread? Block out the sun with raining shuriken?

I really really don't think ppl use trebuchet to shoot down any flying moving target that is not a huge and slow zeppelin. In fact, I was thinking of more like ... javelins launcher; some kinda vertical missile launch platform.

They can fling Van's custom anti-air cluster bombs in the wyvern's path and it will fly right into the bladestorm.

In almost any other situation i would celebrate the trebuchet, but as an anti air option!? Much more logical would be a large balista on an adjustable platform. As other people have mentioned Val will probably invent time fuze anti air projectiles or something, maybe even proximity based.

Wonder if they will even consider the notion that trebuchets aren't that great at launching things vertically...

You're all not really wrong about catapults and trebuchets not being effective anti-air weapons, but what you're forgetting is that Van has also invented the equivalent of flak rounds for them.

I guess scatter-shot style ammunition would work, but I can't help but feel like shooting nets via coordinated ballista shots would work just as well and be easier to aim.
