Yep, if you want to write you should read, then when you can articulate what you did not like you can start writting what you can.

You have to be mindful of the audience. That's something i am also coming to terms with, like what if this WASN'T the original story, but the author had to adjust it because they understand they need to make a sale at the end of the day. I am struggling with this concept. Maybe the reason why these tropes always show up is because the majority LIKES them, and i am just a small vocal minority?

Seriously I don't really like it if the MC just copy the power and overpowered him in the exact way the opponent meant to use the power.
He said he only copied the surface, but yet still overwhelmed him without any creative way to make up the difference in experience of close range battle.
That's practically make this new friend has no strong signature thing to offer since his best (that is build up in years of efforts) is worthless against a less than a day cheap copy of the MC.

Getting into an endurance match with Zenon is just dumb for anyone introduced thus far BARRING the principal. He'll drag out the fight to learn your techniques, and then he'll start experimenting with other spells in his repertoire to see how they interact. Hell, the moment he saw reinforcement magic in the school, he and Yuno immediately went to see what reinforcing someone else does. And he can do all that because Photo Eye is HIDEOUSLY busted and shows how pathetic the og Zenon was.
