It feels gratuitously edgy. It’s obvious the author just wanted to engineer a situation where a cute and modest high school girl would pick up a gun and go on a killing spree. I can accept that so long as it’s sufficiently well written, like Thou Shalt Not Die, but my hopes aren’t exactly sky high.

This is really good. While the art of the action sequences is good, the character art stands out to me more. The well defined characters in a detailed setting of political intrigue makes for a fascinating end result.

The mental conflict for our main character is nontrivial. Will he choose to accept the darkwalkers as allies? Will he follow them in their genocide? As someone looking for a place to belong, he probably will initially, before showing more defiance to harming innocents as he gains confidence.

If they really do kill him off, it’s a shitty ending. If they don’t, then it’s a massive cop-out.

Instead of a stalling strat, this is more likely to be a spanner thrown in the works to disturb the “just friends” relationship dynamic, by giving a sense of urgency to the FMC. I doubt she’s actually a serious rival, just an important character for this arc.
