That looked to me like Mother was willing to villify herself for the sake of a "more sensible status quo".
She can justify herself to no end with how this pig was tainting the remaining normalcy her family had... even if it was her own daughter. His husband seems set to ruin his life thanks to his desperate will to care for his daughter. Her memories of their home and daughter is on the way to further ruin. It's not just by something like literal defecation. It's the desecration of her daughter's life from a dear one who's passed having resurrecting into a more horrendous state of existence. It was a curse that was never even supposed to happen.
To the mother, she must be interpreting her actions as a mercy kill she's willing to take the blame for. With this phenomenon set to distort the entire family's existence into an absurdity that will only lead them to their doom and regretful demise, she had to set things right. Who knows... maybe the daughter knows it too. Perhaps that drawing was meant to confirm her identity, but those tears were a wordless scream... that she didn't want whatever was happening to her.
