I’m starting to question that. I mean the princess is already so strong being a descendant of a hero and capable of most classes. Where as the demon princess is too much a good girl for it to be an act. + with the way he felt to be awakened and how it frightened him makes it hard to believe.

That may be true, but we just saw in this chapter that as he was dying, he was finding that his Hero alter ego was nothing more than a doll to be used. Like that of a main character from an old JRPG, with no emotion, no will of their own. Not even a voice.

And, from the perception you get from the Demon side, they aren't keeping him alive to win. They are keeping him alive to not lose.
You'd think a more ambitious and evil group would just lock him up and hide him away.

@mahtan The only person who has told him that was the Demons' goal was the Princess. Obviously she doesn't seem like a very trustworthy individual...
