I just don't understand why the author would have decided to create drama by making it so that nobles harbor a mindless, unconditional hatred for commoners. In reality, it's not that easy to hate every single member of a certain group that you interact with on a regular basis. Imagine if regular people were actually overtaken by intense rage every time they came upon anyone of another race. Society would literally cease to function. Imagine if instead of enslaving African natives and exploiting their lives for profit, Europeans just tried to kill as many of them as they could. That kind of shit just doesn't happen outside of religious extremist groups. (Edit: I forgot about Hitler, but there's no way he would've spent government money to create a prestigious school that smart, talented Jewish people could get into as long as they didn't mind being viciously harassed by other Germans. Not to mention, there are no Jewish people who would attend if that were the case.) The nobles have nothing to gain from antagonizing commoners, and, from the looks of it, they've already reaped the karma of their own actions. Why repeat history? Nobles are supposed to receive a better education than commoners, right? If that's the case, why are they all so fucking stupid? Desir isn't even smart. It's just that all of the antagonists are neanderthals.

Maybe the academy only teaches students how to perform magic, and nothing else. That might explain the terrifying lack of basic intelligence that people in this world seem to exhibit. If I didn't know better, I might have thought this manhwa was written by a Chinese xianxia author.

@pato The author is probably basing it on real life, back in the day nobles were horrible to commoners, sometimes even more if they knew that their country was once at the mercy of commoners. The academy being established and allowing both kinds of people to join probably wasn’t on the whim of the nobility, they were probably forced to do it because of the rebellion so it’s more like if Hitler lost but instead of forcing more laws to change the jews requested a school allow both kinds of students to attend. Hitler would probably accept if it calmed down the rebels because it’s kind of hard for a rebellion to regain the momentum after only a little time has passed after peace. A lot of nobles thought that they were descended from gods so how could lowly people try to fight against god, that is why even if it had happened before it would make the nobility hate more than before.

I'm more pissed off at the constant "KEUK/HAAB" as if they are the only sounds people can possibly make, who cares if they are direct translations from the author, you can do better meraki '_' even Link from the Legend of Zelda has a broader vocabulary.

The Noble vs commoner thing is very overused but looking at history (like the french guillotine peasant uprising thing I just read about) makes it tolerable as it is definitely a common theme in pretty much all human societies no matter where you look. I'm surprised it hasn't happened with the 1% yet, but I guess us commoners have better things to do like play vidja and read mangas :]

Imo, and to make a long story short, I think there's a major difference between indepth ,interesting elitism, and just blabbering a single sentence and leaving the room.
Going "filthy commoner! hmpth!" and then doing what they'd have done anyway, doesn't actually add any depth to their hatred. And the author attempted to bridge that gap by having the grey-haired noble have an extremely subtle hint about his trauma, by having a lengthy scene about floating skeletons which directly instruct him to murder and hate.

Btw, do ya'll remember that the initial point of this story was the shadow-world? Ya'll enjoying this extended war for who got a bigger dick?

Part of the premise of the story is that the mc is talented, but didn't fulfill his potential due to lack of proper education. So now he's trying to get to alpha class to get said education, so I'm fine with it.
Besides, he was sent to 3 years before he even graduated, so I expect a lot of derailment and school-life.

Yeah the noble-commoner theme is pretty bad, but it's the excuse the author chose as to why he didn't get that education, so I just skim over it.
What I DO have issue with, is just how bland the mc is. How many facial expressions did he have in the past 10 chapters? 2? 3? Most of his personality is sacrificed to remind us that he's a know-it-all that already lived all this. He has this constant pretentious smile (it's even on the cover), and even though he supposedly cares about his friends, he doesn't involve them in his strategies and pretty much tells them to follow his orders (trust me and do as I say). Plus, at first I thought Romantica was going to be his love interest or something, but she and the blue guy ended up as two kids running around him, literally being petted by him. blah. This could be so much better.

The analogy for magic swordsman vs magician is good idea, but not entirely correct. A magic swordsman is a jack-of-all-trades that will never be as good a swordsman as a plain swordsman or as good a magician as a plain magician because they have split their training effort between two disciplines. You could look at a magic swordsman as a single discipline, but that's not how the analogy was stated and if it was, then they'd both be running at the same speed.

If they say magic swordsmen in this universe are as good a real swordsman and magician combined then that's what they are. Tropes don't have to be pinpoint accurate across all storytelling. That's how things get stale and boring.
