Actually, now that I think about it, something doesn't quite make sense here. King Il, as Yona's father, kept her identity as the CDK reincarnation a complete secret from everyone except for Soo-won. It appears as though he was bragging or boasting about this fact to him in the flashbacks, which would make sense if he was still religiously devoted to the CDK faith in secret and wanted to rub this fact in his brother/nephew's non-religious faces. Sort of like an, "I was right! I told you so!" kind of moment. This chapter, especially, made Il seem like he was somewhat jealous of his brother for holding a more direct connection to the CDK lineage through his marriage to Yon-hi when the reality is that the future end results turned out completely different. Because Soo-won was born as a normal CDK direct descendant, but Il's own daughter Yona was the true reincarnation of the CDK. Also, it feels a bit strange that if Il was still secretly practicing the CDK faith, why did he choose to not place his daughter on the CDK pedestal and instead make absolutely certain that no one knew of her real identity? In this type of situation, to me, it looks like Yona's father was in actuality a dark two-faced character? Like how Yona remembers her father as a gentle soul, but Hak recalls a moment where he showed a stronger type of nature; that incident where Il grabbed Kan Tae-jun's blade when he was trying to force Yona to go with him. Honestly, I have this sinking feeling that the whole core point of this arc that Yona is reading about, is to break her previous illusions of how she once saw her father and learn the truth; that who she thought at the surface was her father wasn't all there was to him. I mean, that's kind of been the biggest question Yona's always had throughout the series. That she couldn't understand why Soo-won would murder her father when in her mind, Il has done nothing to deserve it. Sure Yona has witnessed how some of Il's misguided policies have badly affected the country overall, but none of that would really warrant murdering the King in her eyes, unless there was a deeper and more personal reason to kill him. I think this arc is going to help reveal the true corruption hiding within the royal palace surrounding both the CDK religion and how her father was a greater part of it. Especially if, Il had anything to do with his own enthronement by using his father's religious devotion to the CDK faith by stating his daughter would be the next reincarnation of the CDK. The plot thicken and I'm longing for the next chapter! :D

I'm just going to make my statement though- in no way was the murdering of her father (this one is debatable and can change) and the attempted murder of Yona and Hak right (this will never be forgiven by me, if they wanted power they could've waited until marriage or overtaken the throne and imprisoned that king.

I stick with my opinion: fuck that advisor and fuck soo won ^^

Dear author, whatever it is you're trying to do here...I'm still not gonna sympathize with Su-won. I do sympathize with his father though....

ah finally ! I've always found King Il strange and thought there was a deeper meaning to his assassination. Him being brainwashed by the faith sickens me and if He really did ended up being the cause of yu hon death I guess Su won had his reason to kill him. I'm excited but a bit sad to discover what comes next

I don't know what Yoona and Hak's reaction if the reason why Su won kill her dad was because King Il's fault. I mean what if King Il actually was a bad person and because of that Su won has his reasons to kil him. Also, now Yoona knows that Su won is seriously Ill.

I think it's more likely that Il became the heir because Yonhi's kids are at risk for the crimson illness. Meaning that the sky tribe bloodline was better served by whoever the younger brother married. Soo Won said that YuHon expressed being happy to support Il as king, which would also fit that reasoning.

I'm guessing the Koka priests did something shady, maybe even connected with the priests in Xing that also went into hiding. YuHons brutality to Xing could even be related to the exiled Kouka priests taking shelter there. The fact that Il married Kashi -- one of the priests of the shrine -- is also related in my mind. So, did YuHon target Kashi to eliminate the faith, believing she was still poisoning Il's mind or because she was still meeting secretly with the exiles, thus causing Il to secretly kill his brother for revenge or to protect his daughter or to prevent further war crimes? Or was the priesthood itself torn between supporting the blood descendent vs the reincarnation, and it dragged the brothers into the conflict by framing them?

Oooo I could speculate for days. And will until the next one comes out...

@nmyhv1 oh tbh i had no idea that it was! I thought that it was still something Soo-won claimed to have happened, but that the audience didn't actually get to see yet. i haven't been following the series that closely tho

although you've got a point, I don't see anyone in Yona's life who would educate her about those matters... Hak def would but even he didn't know i'm pretty sure? the sky tribe general looks like the only one who would actually tell yona anything but that would be pretty random and out of the blue (yes i forgot his name btw HAHAHHA) also Yona grew up extremely sheltered... and Il hides a lot of things from her.

@copperhead its hard to say if his brainwashed if the religion has legit power you can’t say a highly devoted person is brainwashed by a religion if said god actually appear in the world.

It now makes more sense why King Il sheltered Yona so much and was extremely passive when it came to ruling Kouka. As a faithful believer he mostlikely expected Yona to bless their country with peace and bounty but as we know the Gods do not roll like that so he ruled their kingdom very poorly despite everything in his face being red flags that everything is not ok.

So in the next chapter we're gonna see Yu-hon oppressing the faithful, which is never ok even though their a bit too obssessed. The rift increases, the birth of the kids, Yu-hon dies either by murder or self-sacrifice, and just general unpleasant time.

Personal headcanon because we gotta wait a month for the next update: He probably believed that the environment Yona lived in influenced her power thus showered her in wealth, peace and beauty and no pain or battles in fear she becomes a war goddess (tbh she kinda is with her new found battle prowess).

I'm gonna predict Yona will be very conflicted with her self. The sins of her existance as a reincarnation has caused a lot of strife, but at the end she's not King Hiryuu she's Yona. Hak and her friends and allies will definitely assure her of that. So she follows her heart which tells her to help her people as she has done since her journey started, and to establish a future where the decendants of the dragons aren't too affected by their heritage (crimson illness, powers that isolate them from society) which means finding a cure for Su-won and probably forefitting their powers. Whether she'll take the thrown or not is up to her, Su-won is already an effective ruler and Yona has been more suited to her Happy Hungry Bunch up and personal kind of helping folks.

This manga is becoming a soap opera. Still one of my favourites though. Yona’s character development what I look for in a fic.
