Isn't it technically still legal to marry at 13 in japane under very specific circumstances although legal changes have pushed it higher in most districts?
Traditional marriage in a lot of countries girls would be married off shortly after they started puberty to become wives and mothers. Moral judgement aside what makes you think biology is beatable?

From the dialogue it implies Grery and the ex were dating 13 or 14 years ago it's actually strange that she isn't already married off.
