Yay. An actual villainess!
kinda reminds me of the villainess reverses the hourglass where
mc gets to go back and repeat her life, fixing her mistakes and living a better (if still somewhat evil) life, but then later on, one of the main villains also gets a second chance when they're reborn as someone new. They also learned from all their mistakes and were able to live a better life as a result,
Yeah, I know the one you mention! Iris, loved how Aria was kind of just "talking out of her ass on purpose" when she revealed to Iris that she came from a Bad timeline and so there WAS a chance she could get a power and survive! Helps Iris was reincarnated as a poor commoner!
Funny enough a RPG called Chained Echoes had this as a Major Plot point for the Main Protagonist Glenn (being that among it's inspirations, Xenogears was one of them, mainly the chosen one reincarnated into multiple different lifes it took till Xenoblade Chronicles 3 for the Creator to go back to) basically Glenn's FIRST life was as a spoiled rich noble named Van, during the game, he assumed he was Leanne, the Female Heroine who is ALSO a reincarnates lover who inspired to reincarnate to be with her again, Van was her "fiancée" in that life who accidently killed her trying to kill the Lover when she tried to run away and elope with the guy!
To make things short, Van ended up taking the Lover's place in the ritual because he FELT entitled to Leanne even in the next life, causing the guy to reincarnate as normal....but Van's next life similar to Iris was as a poor commoner! Suffice to say all his lives ended up with him suffering, but being an important figure in each new life, one of them being a GREAT scientist you hear about in the game before you find this out, and another well you have a party member who has a LONG lifespan, so Glen ended up being his MASTER he looked up to, and still does as he starts seeing Glenn abit like him once it's found out! But that FIRST incarnation CHANGED Van, he lost EVERYTHING, he was a nobody and nearly STARVED to death if not for the kindness of a stranger! Lets just say Glenn doesn't take this revelation well. And the COLLECTIVE guilt Van has grown in each life does get to him....along with Van wanted to apologize to Leanne for what he put her and her lover through and his past actions. The Big Bad of the story who was ACTUALLY the Big Good, had no CHOICE but to use Van for his plans to save the world, so GUIDED him even up to the events of the game where he's Glenn in order to be the Hero the world needed! At the end of the game, Glenn gives up his reincarnation, giving it to his Former friend, the game's "Traitor Party Member" who went through his OWN humiliations (the game was deconstructing the Traitor Trope by the fact he NEVER returns, a Hidden Party member slash "former GOOD guy antagonist joining your side" uses his equipment! And suffice to say, the dude suffers BIG! Mainly the Bad Guys have no use for him when he KEEPS failing, in other games, the Traitor despite failing ALWAYS seems to be in a high position, NOPE, dude suffers BIG for his betrayal by it getting WORSE for him, including getting RAPED by an old man, and well his body CHANGED to worse and worse things! All by the Big Bad I mentioned who was the Big Good actions because he was just FODDER for Glenn's development) through the story. Glenn sees himself in the guy, the "Van" he started out as and hopes the reincarnation will assure his "character development" STICKS
Iris gets the same, in a way, Iris "Second Life" was similar in a way to this "Villainess" if you think on it! She didn't squander her second chance and made the most of it. Just like the FMC in this story she foolishly did treasonous actions, and at the end, only felt REGRET and "Peace" when she knew her BROTHER at least would be alive, along with the FEAR of her end and hope Aria wasn't being a BITCH one last time to her! Which happens and well she doesn't SQUANDER it just like this FMC did with her time travel. She learned to ACTUALLY to be grateful to the things in life that actually matter! Though Iris had to start over from scratch, and funny enough ends up working for the guy who while having a hand in her ruin in her last life, did love her and her ruination was mostly her own damn fault! It also made her FULLY UNDERSTAND Aria where before she saw her as just a Whore's Daughter "destined to be a Whore herself" had a "Kill the Poor" mentality and if I remember, SHE was the one to prompt Mielle drive to kill Aria and her mother before she was married into the family to "Remember Filth" so finding herself in the position of a powerless commoner and seeing how life was for them. Really drove the point that she DESERVED her Karmic Butt Monkey status in the final parts of her life when everything went to ruin, especially taking into mind the FIRST timeline where things got WORSE for everyone and the Kingdom because the Humiliation Aria got the Prince to transfer onto her, instead happened to him and she and her fellow ENTITLED Nobles were free to wreck havoc to the Kingdom with their bad choices piling up, of course they had scapegoats, but the mindset that Commoners existed to get exploited was something she finally realized was stupid and wasteful! She had her chance, now she got to watch as Aria, a girl who was BORN a Commoner, ignoring her Noble blood status she found out later rose up and even in her "villainy" made things BETTER for all more then her and her group of entitled nitwits who were born into it failed to do
