this seems like it might be different from the LN,

Yeah, most likely going the same route as the anime where:

Alicia is cursed/controlled/compelled by the story to attack Yumiella.

In the LN:

Alicia and the prince's three hangers-on deliberately attack Yumiella, deciding that she is, in fact, the hidden boss

The difference technically causes issues down the line in like LN.. 4? 5? where:

Alicia is under guard for her acts, however is secretly being trained as a last-ditch option against Yumiella rebelling, if ever needed. Alicia gets kidnapped by another nation and used as an anti-Yumiella weapon. This (almost) brings about the end of the world.

But let's be honest: Neither the manga or anime are going to get that far.

As for differences in relations, I do remember that LN Alicia was more curt and didn't get involved with Yumiella much - not so much animosity (at least not openly) as simply not interacting, and I don't think the black mist visualisation was in the LN either.

Not fond of them because they're inefficient level fodder. Gamer girl, right there.

She good at convincing her to drink the mana potion.

Levelled up so much she's able to actually see Yumi now.

Another addict?

in general i think there was a lot more animosity between the prince/heroine and the mc, but tbh i by far prefer the "become friends" trope to the "heroine is actually the villainess" trope
The latter is just so overdone by now. Also usually rather clumsily done, with black and white morality.

the heroine ends up betraying the mc at the demon king's castle (who by the way was apparently just another person who had black hair and powerful magic i think?) and nearly killed her if it werent for the revive necklace patrick convinces her to wear, then the heroine ends up getting killed

Well yeah but in the anime it was the game taking over which is why I prefer the LN were they did it out of their own will (since they still saw Yumiella as a threat to them).

edit: I tried to put the spoiler thing but it didn't worked.

Won’t let me spoiler it but I think you might be mixing up that web novel and light novel.

What you said happens to Alicia doesn’t happen in the Light Novel.

Yes. In the afterword Volume 4 the author even talks about how she’s frustrated at seeing how good the manga version of Alicia is and wishes she had that version.

Alicia is different in every version of the story.
All versions are true, but some just travel down different legs in the trousers of time.

please not the "villianess and heroine switch role" trope please. It's already over-saturated like those "reincarnated as a villian and switching role with the hero" already

I love "Villainess" x Heroine frienship :win:
Only way to improve on it is for them to end up more than friends, with the male lead left holding the bag.

Is this going to be different from the light novel? I need to reread it
Yes, it's different. In the LN, the training is so traumatic that the Heroine carries it with her throughout the rest of the series, directing her actions that only lead her further and further into evil. Her motivations are now entirely divorced from the LN, so it's impossible to follow the original plot anymore.

Well, this was a surprise. I watched the anime yesterday, at one point checking the manga on my tablet to be sure it was still on my watch list. I left the browser on that page, and didn't touch my tablet again until this morning. I open my tablet, the page refreshed automatically, and I see a new chapter.

How the hell did you know!!!???

wait... you meanthe few latest WN chapters where she got "almost" sealed is ALSO alicia's fault? HOLY CHEAT!
Levelled up so much she's able to actually see Yumi now.
isn't it just because she completely depleted her mana?
Alicia is different in every version of the story.
actually kind of a good thing to sell more: every support has a different story version
as if... every support was on a different dimension :meguusmug:
