While I would welcome a Yuri ending, the way Remilia loves Emi is beyond mere romantic love between one person of another, it's a mix of romantic love, friendship love, familial love, and a selfless and unconditional love.

Remilia doesn't just adore Emi, she worships her. She views her as the paragon of kindness, the person who saved her from absolute darkness and the would-be savior for everyone else as well if not for Pina's interference.

You can see on the very first chapter that Remilia doesn't really have any sort of desire to keep Emi to herself romantically. Emi was wondering if getting betrothed to Willard was fine or not since he's supposed to be Remilia's love interest, but Remi says that she doesn't mind at all as long as she can achieve happiness.

If Emi could speak and wishes to stay with Remilia forever as her lover, Remilia would happily oblige. But Emi can't speak, nor did she showed any sort of desire for Remilia romantically either before she fell asleep. So Remilia prioritized Angel, as she thinks that he's the one person who can truly love Emi's Remilia and make her happy.

And Angel's love for Remilia isn't really one-sided. As she had said in this chapter herself, if Angel can love this side of Emi's Remilia, then she can learn to love him as well, just that he'd probably never be her number one.

FYI this isn't really some sort of foreign thing, I don't think it's really any different as to how a mother would love her children more than her husband. Does she place her children as her number one love? Yes. Does that mean she hates her husband? Of course not, she still loves him very much.
Yes. The way I see it, Remilia and Angel both love "Emi's Remilia". Remilia is fully able to understand that her original self is a contrived being, a villainess, who was created only to suffer and destroy everything including herself, but Emi brought her salvation. In a memory Emi laments that even the Demon King has a path to salvation but Remilia the villainess wasn't given one. To Remilia, "Emi's Remilia" is the Remilia who was given dignity as a human being instead of as a villainess character. At one point it was mentioned that Emi thought that Remilia had many possibilities such as an adventurer, scholar, merchant, etc if she had been given love and not forced onto the track of being a villainess. Through her love for Remilia, Emi worked, with her own sweat and blood and toil, to create a Remilia who could do anything and find happiness - a new route if you will.

In some ways Emi is Remilia's god like the Creator is to the the demons. Emi saved Remilia from circumstances which a mere mortal like Remilia could never have saved herself from. I'd even say that there are parallels in their tales of destruction with Emi being broken and sent to their depths by malicious greed of Pina and the Creator being left to rot in the depths of the demon realm by the malicious greed of the Lord of Heavens.

For Angel to be able to truly love the 'Remilia who was given human dignity' is an enormous act beyond just romantic love, it is an act of faith towards Emi. At the same time Angel's eyes serve as guardrails to keep Remilia in line with "Emi's Remilia." Remilia wants to be trapped in the lie that is "Emi's Remilia," because that is her way of honoring Emi's efforts to create a Remilia who found happiness. At the same time it's also her path to create a world deserving of Emi.

There are so many layers to their bond.

I don't understand why the warden's son died offscreen? Feels weird you know.
Presumably the guy who put it in Pina's bottom had him killed. He used the fact that the son admired Pina to get him to be the go between to run the drugs, but needed to cover their tracks so no one knew it was ordered for Pina. Someone who was told 'do this for Pina' has to disappear.

Ooooo crap now that you mention it, I can see that. Damn I can't believe I didn't notice the parallel until now :meguupog:
