On the main page the account icon on the top right has a notification dot for me, opening the drop down shows the notification is from "announcements" but clicking it goes to the support subpage rather than the announcement page (which doesn't seem to actually exist as even manually typing in the url just forwards to the support page) and nothing I can seem to do removes the notification dot.

Which in theory could be the case but nothing you can click on that page makes the notification go away from what I could tell.

They're probably going to have it visible for awhile to draw attention and see if anyone wants to support the site.
Why do we need a setting to make a notification icon go away? It's should just go away after you look at what it's a notification for like every other notification icon in existence (which is arguably a bug hopefully). Glad ieatass69 came in with the work around solution for the time being.

Not sure how you're reading it like that, it's a bug and and it's getting fixed the next time a site update goes live.
The intent, as always, is to get people to click once. This is not intended behaviour.
