I know he'll go back but geez, this old man really is striking a lot of my nerves with each new chapter

We've only seen bits and pieces of how utterly he's been broken, to the point of feeling unworthy as a teacher to receive praise in even that role. Whatever the kingdom did to him once he rebelled must have been thoroughgoing and devastating and he's clearly just beginning to stop falling. It's gonna be frustrating until he gets it turned around.

I feel like the story is going way too fast.

I'm OK with the mc trying to avoid romance with the girls, I'm OK with him pushing them towards what he thinks will be better mentors for them, I'm even OK with him keeping his power on the DL, what I can't fucking stand is this false humility aversion to anything remotely resembling a positive character trait.

We're supposed to feel sorry because people walk over him, but everything about him screams I don't respect myself, so yeah I don't really care about him at all. At this point in the story I would rather see the girls end up with the rich kid, he at least seems salvageable.
