Another "I totally didn't write a character with a mental disorder" manga?
Either japanese mangaka are geniuses at understanding mental disorders.
Or they are just writing these character types on total accident.
As an autist myself I am unsure if I should be honored or not about this.
Thanks for the probably accidental representation I guess?
They are creating characters based on the needs of the story first, worrying about their impact on the general culture dostant second.
My guess is this story is going to be about a guy who lives in a world related to sex work (super intensive emotions), and ironically he does not understand love/sex/human emotions. The point of his "autism" is to make the story interesting, so in reality if his traits map on any real issue, it's purely accidental.
Sometimes it feels as if in western media there was a stigma against using mental issues/race/orientation/whatever without "addressing it in a responsible way" , which makes people stressed out when writing them, -> they are less confident in presentation/worry about crossing the line-> which in turn makes the characters less interesting and worse in a way, even if it is "right".
In a way, any person with an issue has to be an ambassador of all ppl with that issue, which in turn makes them represent no one.
But then, there is the american show "good doctor", so what do I know
