Remember that Mars Chronicle was basically the childhood of Gally and Erika before they join the Panzer Kunst, Kein last mission was basically the epilogue of their last relevant "paternal/uncle" figure so to speak.

We had both info of Gally real origins and how and why Erika became so twisted and evil yet obssesed to a point with Gally and we also still have some extra hints about other surviving characters

Heh, kinda ending where I wanted this to start, with Yoko and Erika learning Panzer Kunst and the solar system war unfolding...
But it was quite good, especially at the end, right before the end...

Hope to see more of KIshiro very soon, now I think I'm gonna buy the volume of Mars Chronicle somewhere and read it all over again while I wait

I’m guessing that Keun is not gone for good but that he actually will become a necro-soldier. It also wouldn’t surprise me if Hexenhaus cannibalism is a tactic to combat the creation of necro-soldiers. It would put their whole spiel about respecting life and the body in a new light. It would also connect with the entire series theme of what life really is. Like with whether the brainless tiphareans had died or not, if robots or other biological but still synthetic beings are humans, and indeed where Alitas humanity actually stems from? Now however the question become about reanimated corpses.

Still I too feel that the ending was probably a little too abrupt, even if it is only really a transition to a new act. Still the series has been great so far and I am happy to see where it is going (and I hope that the new series is mostly a name change and timeskip rather than something entirely new.)

I think most of us wouldn't be upset if it wasn't as abrupt as it was. Look at the last arc before this one, and how long Keun fought. What happened here was the classic buildup: we have a bunch of psycho cannibals and he's gonna have to fight his way out. Only... not? The main dude dies like a bitch after next to no fight, and then Keun is immediately killed. In ANY OTHER ARC this would AT LEAST be several chapters. Here? It feels like the author got bored and decided to flip the table and start fresh. That is what's upsetting.
Fair, can't argue with that.

I do think it may have been some sort of internal situation that made this strange "end", I do think too that if this had one more chapter this "end" would have been more gracious.

We probably will never know what happened, I am just happy that this isn't the true ending.. then I would be fuming in the mouth from rage, but as I can see something must have happened for this situation to pass and it was only one big flaw, I can accept it... but that is entirely a personal opinion.

My comment before was just me trying to not let too much discontent pile up to not sour everyone's mood, admittedly it could backfire and I could offend someone but I had to try... I just really love this story to not at least ease tension a bit.

In some time we will have the next series and we will see what Kishiro-sensei has planned.

Hard to believe it's been over 10 years already. I hope Kishiro lives long enough to finish the story.
Holy crap, hadn't realized that Mars Chronicle had dragged on quite THAT long

Not that it was overall bad or anything, but it sure as hell meandered and took its time, even for a Gunnm series.

Based on how quickly it ended after that long hiatus I wonder if Kishiro was burned out and just looking to get it done with or if editors/publisher got on his case? Either way, glad to hopefully be getting the story more focused back on Alita

This was an abrupt ending. So long Keun, you will be missed. I think editor san probably had a Sake with Kishiro san and said, "mate at the speed you're going , It's gonna be the end of the century before we get to see the Panzer kunst War and Yoko and Erika's narrative in it"😁

It was great to see Yoko's early origin story but it's time to move on and get into what's sure to be a pretty peak manga from here on in.

Rest in Peace Keun... I really didn't expect us to come full circle in quite this way, seeing Gergt be the other double agent was quite a shock, even moreso to see him kill Keun like that. I look forward to seeing Yoko and Erica's relationship develop so we can see the culmination of the tragedy, and then see how it all plays into Alita's present day struggles. So much more to see. Zero-G training, Erica and Yoko learning with Gelda, and witnessing the secret training Alita remembered when she fought Jashugan.

Now that I think about it, maybe it was a good time to end it here. There's so much info to go thru to make it related to the present or even for the start of the war.

It's time to connect some dots.

Maybe that's the same guy, but that whole sequence got pretty much retconned in Last Order, so I don't know if it really matters.
The more recent (and therefore canonical, IMO) reason Yoko got scrap-dropped onto Earth was a botched execution after Caerula captured her in Operation Maulwurf.

Anyway, kind of a shock to the system, Mars Chronicle "ending" like this.
At least we (probably) won't have to try repressing all memory of the last few chapters, like in the original series. (That space-flower was freaking awful.)

I'm not expecting the end to go like that, but not bad after all, I thought Keun is going to be defeated by Tariq, I never thought that they even know each other.
That guy at the end seems to be the guy claimed to be Yoko and Erica's teacher at the beginning of Mars chronicle.
I must say that Mars Chronicle is my favorite part of the series right now, keep up the good work Kishiro sensei! I'm REALLY looking forward for the next part. Thanks for the translation as always.

Man. Well I guess this cements this one as the worst part of the series.
It’s just…
