What i think actually happened with guts is that he didn't gain any powers he just fully realized his astral powers by making it so he can interact with other astral beings

this was hinted when his sword caught one of Griffith's hairs

it was always there just not fully utilized

but now it is so the only difference between the guts before and now is that he can fully interact with otherworldly entities

I see him serious but I don't see him angry or sad. I think right now what he wants is to go rescue his family (Casca and his son) from Griffith. I don't think he wants revenge anymore. He seems to have found some inner-peace somehow so he's probably not blaming himself for what happened to his loved ones anymore.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Mori and his Assistants never once drew chestnut Puck since Miura died. Maybe it was a Miura humor thing and they want to respect that. Or its because the situation is pretty serious.
