Hiding it from her friends makes it even more stupid when they could be allies of the couple and making space for them to be together discreetly, by setting up group outings and leaving them together at every opportunity.

I'm not sure if he's still on his disassociating phase of depression or he's that mature to bounce back after a night's sleep. I imagine anyone (especially him) to want to be left alone for now to reflect on all of his mistakes and take mental notes moving forward. I guess he really respects Sekine as a comrade-in-arms that he wants to celebrate her success, depressed or not.

I think that the perception of him as a "loner" stems more from the fact that he himself decided to be "loner" and perceive himself that way. It is not surprising that others decided to perceive him that way as a result
