@WillLi "she helped once when the monsters were going to kill some civies without any interference." well, thats what expected right? since the villagers right in front of Barricade?

"The MC had her in the dungeon killing enemies by herself to grind levels literally a few days earlier. He was just watching to make sure she didn't die. Or did you forget everything she did in the dungeon?"
mage girl? or shopkeeper girl? lol

stop using RL logic on the world where dungeons appear and "DEATH" is already common on there....
if you can't adapt, getting stronger or at least has experience to protect yourself, you're same as dead, moreover if you LIVE in front of Dungeon....
MC fighting his hardest, EVERY adventures fighting their hardest, but if following as you says 'that doesn't matter if they're dead or crippled after it', then how they gonna become stronger? look at MC, he almost death or crippled, did it "doesn't matter"? no, he become stronger to the point can solo the boss by himself...
there's always something new to teach , not all adventures can protect them, Shinjuku is primary example, adventures fail to protect Shinjuku, the city already destroyed..
Shopkeeper fighting just halting their to growth, to learn how to protect themselves, since it makes them become too dependable to her, if the company where she working pull her from there, then those villagers losing that pillar, they gonna searching another strong people to depend on, they're not growing, they become spoiled people that thinking strong adventures gonna protect them forever.
thats why that villager saying what Shopkeeper girl says is right, since it also applied to him....

On the one hand, I find it silly we're having an actual discussion about whether the actions of a fictional character were right or not. On the other hand, this is fun, so I don't care if it's silly. Anyhow, you did raise some good points, but I believe that both us are relying too much on assumptions. The story is still in the beginning and the world-building so far has left a lot to be desired. Because of that, we can't know whether the setting is as similar to that of real life as it seems, which means that there's not really any point in continuing our discussion. In any case, you can blame it on poor writing or whatever, but judging from the reaction of that soldier to the shopkeeper's outburst, it really seems like people in that world aren't really expecting much from the shoopkeeper, which is more in line with the point I'm trying to make. It could be poor writing (in fact, it very likely is), but we still don't know enough of the world to tell (the history of adventurers, the jurisdiction concerning them, etc) whether there's a good reason behind her actions (again, there probably isn't).

@Mitsuboshi Very unrelated to what you said but, every time I see your profile picture I keep seeing the woman in it naked with a cloth draped over her chest and her back and ass exposed.

@Mitsuboshi : Mage Girl is not garbage, she is new and inexperienced, she had only just become an adventurer when we meet her, but is improving. Shop girl is a experienced veteran.

@ANISYAKIRAH : Not really, MC is not on the top ranked level yet, he grows fast and will reach it, but is not there yet.
that most high rankers are occupied with trying to reclaim it will be relevant for a couple upcoming parts, and how the boss of that stamped gets killed will be important, since it pretty much requires a skill (resistance) that no one has (monsters with status effects are apparently very rare) that allows it to effectively 1 shot anyone out of the fight, but the MC puts on a tamed monster for fear of needing it and not having it.

@Nematoda Everything you said is either wrong, or just doesn't make sense. Firstly, of course I'm talking about the mage girl, if you read the manga then you know which of them went in the dungeon leveling. So there is no need to teach the mage girl "to not overly rely on people" because she already learned that lesson. Shinjuku is exactly why 'teaching the village' this stupid lesson by not fighting is dumb. Shop keeper girl has no idea how strong the MC is, she has not actually seen him fight once. She doesn't know that he for sure can kill the boss. He he failed, or wasn't there, the town would've eventually gotten swamped and people injured of killed. That boss wolf could've killed at least one person before shopkeeper could help if she was sitting on the back lines.

And it doesn't matter how 'common' death is for adventurers, there are only 2 in that town, the MC and the mage girl. The rest are normal towns people, who aren't used to dieing left and right, there was no dungeon near them till now so even if in other towns that's a thing, it wouldn't have been for them.

Also this is a slight assumption, but I don't think people can level up outside the dungeon. The skill plate, and magic don't work outside the dungeon, so far nothing 'magical' happens outside the dungeon, so even though it's an assumption, it's reasonable to assume leveling up doesn't happen or is at least slowed down outside a dungeon. So likely they're not 'growing' at all while they frantically try to save themselves from teh stampede. What they need to protect themselves is knowledge on how to deal with it, not 'power'. So hanging back doesn't help them at all, it's just risking their lives.
@dummyaccount12345 The thing I'm saying is poor writing is not the shop keeper not helping, but if they write it off and just go "Well she didn't help but she doesn't have to." and the whole town is just like "Yup". This is a traumatic experience for them, and injuries did happen, if there is absolutely zero malice at the shop keeper after this that's not writing 'humans' anymore but NPCs. That's what I'm trying to say.
