That's where you are wrong: if you go read the first chapter, you will see that "adventurer" is a job issued by the government, and that killing monsters is a job requirement. From what we can see, they are part of the self defense force, and they are required to fight in stampede.

It's a bit like saying you want to be a policeman because you like to carry a gun, but then you don't want to patrol the streets or fight robberies because it's a chore and people should be strong enough to solve their own problems : I'd say you are an asshole and a parasite

i dont know, still doesnt make sense. even with strict gunlaws the people would expect to have guns no matter what is the military. i know in singapore thry have strict restrictions on the military, but they're still allowed to carry assault rifles, albeit with only ~7 rounds. id expect they keep some guns in an armoury under lock and key to be given out in a situation like this, since it seems like stampedes like this happen considering how the response is organized and whatnot. it just doesnt make sense for the military to not have the equipment that makes them a military force.

ammo is finite yes, but considering the fact that stampedes are extremely dangerous, and they still have oil reserves (one would expect japan, a country with no oil for itself, would no longer have gas considering post apocalyptic nature) i would go so far as to assume theyd have ammo, considering militaries keep very LARGE stockpiles of ammo for this reason alone. and even in the critical areas there seems to be no guns being used. seems like a plothole/shoddy writing to me

@dudsuper8 I don't think you get what I'm saying. Japan's military has guns. That's not the problem. the problem is the military that was at the MC's town, wasn't deployed for the stampede, they were already there. And it's possible the military didn't view the "arrival of a new dungeon that was reported as "Nothing is coming out of it" as a case that warranted guns, so they might've gotten sent -without- any major guns. And now that the stampede hits, they can't exactly leave to go get guns, and since stampedes are happening everywhere reinforcements would be sent to other places, not here. And if the soldiers here also don't use their guns much and didn't get a huge amount of gun training, the few pistols they might have, they wouldn't use cause they don't feel confident in firing them.

@WillLi They should ask for help from the US (even the minors use guns, though not against the monsters). In fact, why not get a whole chapter dedicated to seeing the status of all the countries of the world. Saudi Arabia makes the flame troops plausible in a semi-apocalyptic world with all that O-I-L. Russia and the Slavic nations may have hardbass playing in the background while throwing molotov cocktails at the monsters. China and India could create a stampede of their own with their population sizes and all (also China does a 'No U' on the monsters and eat them). Australia wouldn't change much at all, just more monsters in the local wild life. Vietnam could have its citizens out-stealth the monsters in forest locations. The monsters may just starve to death in Africa. Canada befriends the monsters. Italy switches sides to the monsters. Sweden just grabbed some popcorn and remained neutral in the situation. Any more ideas for the other countries?

@Luftwaffles27 Japan's military doesn't have a lot of guns because it doesn't need them. They are not allowed to mobilize out side Japan. Hence why it's called the "Japanese SelfDefense Force" and not the 'Army'. I don't know how much that still holds true to the manga, but also, it looks like electricity is 'scarce', at least in Japan, so things getting international makes little sense until that is settled.

And yet they are using IC cards for transactions (meaning internet connectivity). World building is really wacky in this one.

Sandbags and people with shovels? Park an industrial wood chipper at each dungeon entrance. If monsters want to come out to play they can come out as sausage filling.
