  • NoScript - turn on JavaScript. If you're blocking any scripts at all, you may break site functionality, but indiscriminately blocking JS will give you a loading circle and nothing else.

  • Firefox - 73 and prior are unsupported, update to the latest version.
  • Basilisk/Palemoon - Pale Moon 32.5 and newer (and versions of Basilisk based on the same UXP version) work, older versions do not support core site functionality and will not work.
  • Waterfox Classic - Completely unsupported.
  • Waterfox (not Classic) - works great (G5 is based off Firefox ESR 102)
  • Librewolf - works, but by default it will wipe all site settings and log you out whenever the browser is closed.
  • Librefox - The browser itself is no longer supported, the last update was four years ago, migrate to Librewolf.
  • Tor Browser/Mullvad Browser - Based off Firefox ESR, works fine, but wipes all data on close and won't automatically log you into the forum/frontend automatically due to tab isolation.

  • Edge (Legacy) - update to Edge Chromium, original Edge is officially out of support and unmaintained. If you're on Windows Mobile, buy a new phone, the platform as a whole is dead. Edge 99 and older will not work.

  • Chrome - version 101 and prior have terrible image scaling, 98-100 specifically are horrifying, update to the latest version. 79 and earlier are completely unsupported.
  • Chrome on Android 7.0 and older - this will have SSL certificate errors caused by missing Letsencrypt's X1 root certificate. If you cannot access this link without errors, you are experiencing this issue. Update to Android 7.1.1 or newer, use a browser with a built-in certificate store (Firefox) or if you're really desperate you can download the certificate (Active -> ISRG Root X1 -> Self-signed -> PEM) and install it yourself manually.

  • Brave - version 1.2 and older will not work.

  • Safari - Safari 12 is no longer supported, Safari 13.1 (iOS 13.4 or newer) is the oldest supported version. Safari updates are tied to iOS updates, so if your device doesn't support iOS 13 you're out of luck and will need to buy something newer as Apple block browser updates for devices they no longer support. If you're on a Mac, just download Chrome/Firefox.
    All versions of iOS Safari will have issues loading extremely large images, but this has mostly been mitigated with the 10k height limit in v5. Very high resolution chapters may still have issues (4k x 6k images will consistently crash the tab) and this cannot be fixed until Apple stop skimping on RAM.
    Related note: All devices that support iOS 13 also support iOS 15, so just update to that and get two years of browser updates installed.
    Content blockers (the iOS equivalent of Extensions) can cause issues with MD if they're misconfigured and start blocking random scripts, we've seen lots of issues with adblockers on iOS breaking our website - we don't even have ads. The same applies to parental controls, disable "content restrictions" if you are having issues with MD.

  • Opera - the built-in Data Saver mode breaks image loading on MangaDex when reading chapters, disable it. Opera 66 and older will not work.

  • UC Browser - no longer works, no updates in a year and a half, presumed abandoned. Move to a different browser.

  • Internet Explorer - Pick a new browser.

Feel free to add more to the list, the goal is to have a known blacklist of bad browsers/versions so users can be told why they're having issues with MD.

2023/02/12 - Nuxt 3 update changelog;
  • Basilisk/Palemoon - technically works, massive performance issues, lots of cosmetic issues Completely unsupported.
  • Waterfox Classic - technically works, even worse performance/cosmetic issues than Basilisk/Palemoon Completely unsupported.

  • Safari - Safari 12.1.3 is technically supported and just about works, older versions of Safari 12 may work, Safari 11 and older will not work. Safari 12 is no longer supported, Safari 13.1 (iOS 13.4 or newer) is the oldest supported version.

  • UC Browser - no longer works, no updates in a year and a half, presumed abandoned. Move to a different browser.

Unnecessary additions - Updated 2023/04/26

  • Midori (Cross-platform) - Version 9.0 (newest version on the Arch repos) is slow and doesn't always work, version 10.0 works fine.
  • Falkon - Version 23.04.0 works, Version 3.1.0 for Windows does not.
  • Konqueror (Linux) - Version 23.04.0 works.
  • Nyxt (Keyboard focused, Linux) - Version 2.2.4 works.
  • GNOME Web (Epiphany) (Linux) - Version 43.1+ works.
  • Slimjet (Cross-platform) - Version 39.0.1.0 works.
  • Min (Cross-platform) - Version 1.27.0 works.
  • Dissenter - Discontinued and actually broken in my testing.
  • Links - It's text based, what do you think.
  • SeaMonkey (Cross-platform) - Doesn't work.
  • Vivaldi (Cross-platform) - Basically Chromium so works fine.

2023/05/18 - Basilisk 2023.05.17 got released which includes the support for dynamic module import and import.meta on modules, and can confirm it also renders MD correctly.

2023/06/14 - Nuxt 3.5 update

Original thread about it is here.

tl;dr any browser that doesn't support BigInt is broken until Nuxt fixes a bug, which includes Safari 13.1 and Pale Moon.

EDIT: Fixed in early July.

Mypal doesn't work, but Mypal68 does, meaning you can use MD on Windows XP SP3.

EDIT: As of 2023/11/13, MD requires Firefox 74 or higher, meaning Windows XP is no longer supported. RIP.

EDIT 2: Mypal68 backported the JS engine from FF78, so it still works for now, poggers

2023/08/26 - Nuxt/ofetch now require ReadableStream support which requires a minimum of Firefox 66 (previous minimum version was 59) so Pale Moon/Basilisk/etc are all dead again. There's a Pale Moon forum thread regarding the issue.

2023/11/01 - Pale Moon 32.5 has been released and MD is now supported again.

- Added an initial implementation of the ReadableStreams API, improving web compatibility with sites that apparently use this API in utilitarian fashion.

2023/11/13 - minimum requirements raised by Nuxt update, the operator "Optional chaining" (?.) is now a good benchmark for browser support.

Chrome: 60 -> 80
Firefox: 67 -> 74
