It's not a crime until proven otherwise, unless the Court manages to prove "mens rea"( Latin for criminal intent) but depending how the event turned out, you can be charged for Arson and Involuntary manslaughter or negligent homicide and even if you manage to fool the court that the death was caused by an accident, you'll still be convicted with the tort of negligence due to the wrongful death of your neighbour, so you may have to pay a hefty fine and take care of the cost of your neighbour's entire funeral rituals.
Gonna wait until it thaws out first - that'll be more of a statement, I think.
