If he assumed Souta was going for his sister, then why would he help the team out with an injury & not tell anyone about his behind the scenes work that people found out about in this very chapter? Logic is not the most utilized tool people use in this manga but whatever. Thanks for the chapter.

Taiyou made it pretty clearly they aren't close or childhood friends when they asked him.

He probably doesn't see Taiyou as being "sincere"
