@gum_rummy shield hero? He does technically have a pretty powerful set of abilities with his shield, but it doesn't really feel overpowered compared to the world he's fighting in. Wortenia Senkai also, dude's good at fighting and shit, but I wouldn't call him OP.

Eh I don't think it's just that anymore to be honest. People are kinda terrified of being caught actually liking something nowadays.
After all, you might lose your cool kid card if you don't use the word "trash" at least once per isekai title.

So apparently a lot of people don't like the author of this, which is understandable, considering his consistency with dropping his work supposedly and the characters he makes.
This series at its raws are currently at like 27 chapters right now, 1-5 free which will probably be the only ones translated, while the 6+ are pay-walled.
A lot of people don't like the main character, for blatantly obvious reasons, but are still seemingly invested in seeing what they do next in the story which seems a bit ironic.

Edit: I guess I say its ironic because you would naturally think that most people would drop the series once you read the line, "Women are inferior beings."
But I suppose this type of writing isn't that outrageous or unusual at all in most popular media, and is actually more normal than I think compared to what I usually see.

Not sure what's ironic about it. The difference between a likeable character and an interesting character is very well-known. Classic heroes are widely regarded as boring, it's villains who are more interesting. There's a lot of media (like It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia) that's popular not inspite of its awful main cast, but because of it.

@Riltz It's surprisingly accurate to the medieval setting, back then you could beat a woman with a mop handle for burning your toast and there's not much she could do about it.


@orp A lot of people seem to take relatability way too far these days, it's almost like they need to self-insert themselves or they just can't enjoy it, I love villains more than classic heroes, find them more interesting, and therefore more entertaining.

Most of it is the apparently natural tendency of seeing the hero of a story as a literal hero, justifying the protagonist's actions and disapproving of the opponents. So when the protagonist is pictured much less than heroic, some people get a bit of a cognitive dissonance. That trope has been deconstructed and mocked for as long as literature itself existed, starting with Ancient Greek theatre if not earlier, but people had been falling for it nonetheless, and still do.

@orp That makes a lot of sense, it's nice to know the psychological reasons why people are like that, as someone with a very clear line between reality and fiction, I'm probably biased, but requiring heroes and villains to be labeled with consistent identifiable traits, just seems like a very grade school approach to characters, it's almost like they're asking the author to tell them who to root for, it's a creepy thought process, and it weirds me out a fair bit.
