Yeah I don't have $6k+ to spend on Manga each year. Nice try tho publishing companies.

$1 a chapter is even too much. I'll read like 10-20 chapters A DAY sometimes. That's like a $600 a month habit. Gtfo.

It's the same thing with all media companies around the world crying about their spilt milk. Just get over it and cut your digital distribution costs. Make paper copies really nice and make them cost accordingly.

Netflix knows what's up.

I live at home and therefore can't get laid. Thus I am automatically an incel and consequently a right-wing terrorist as a result. The CBC told me so. I need to go exact justice on the Chad aggregator site owners before they turn my waifu into a Stacy or something. /s

But seriously, Mangadex and we as users by extension are being harassed. You probably don't what it is like because you've probably spent your life being the harasser.

Having a site you use being DDOS'd shouldn't end in threats of bodily harm.... I dunno maybe instead... something constructive go paint a picture... go roll on the floor...

Honesty, a report buttonfor edgy comments like that should be implemented to save the user from their own heated stupidity.

Why not? I have nothing to live for and no future. Reading manga is my primary distraction from the misery of my own existence. Bodily harm is probably the most productive use my life. You have no idea what my circumstances are. Even if you did, you'd deny their validity anyway.

Your anger is totally misdirected. Why are you angry with me? I am not the one DDoS-ing this site. You're totally powerless in this situation. I guess you've made your choice to attack me to make yourself feel better, because you don't want to acknowledge your own vulnerability. Guess what harassing me isn't constructive either, but I suppose that never occured to you? It's almost like you don't actually care about what is or isn't "constructive", but rather you are attacking me because it you think it makes you look good and more importantly it makes you feel good. You should be giving me thanks for providing you with opportunity to "virtue signal" so hard.

Anyway I am going to figure out how to not receive notifications from this thread before I get in trouble. It's probably already too late for that.

@arimareiji Thank you. It irritates me to see people quickly dismiss something as a conspiracy theory when there are so many documented conspiracies.

@Zerimas. I imagine most of us are more concerned than angry. I have a particular hatred myself for someone who goes to such lengths to deprive people of a (mostly) harmless thing they enjoy. I don't think its healthy to call for blood so quickly though a good old tar and feathering might be warranted.

Did this man just call me a Chad? I must be doing it wrong, because I'm sitting at home on a beautiful sunny day off work in my room full of anime figures and dakimakura, reading the entirety of DomeKano.

>Japanese publishing/media companies mostly ignore ever-growing English market for the last 20+ years because they don't want to shell out the money to translate stuff for the filthy gaijin to buy with Gaijinbux
>Get indignant when the filthy gaijin pigs decide to translate their media for them because they refuse to publish it in English or license it for English translation
>Illegally DDoS sites that are covered under Fair Use due to non-commercial, transformative nature and because they don't impact the original market of the work (...unless there's a huge English Translation manga market in Japan I was unaware of) and that even urge readers to support the mangaka by buying the original untranslated media

...I can't even formulate my disgust into words. Although, the more I learn about the non-superficial reality of Japanese society and culture, the less things like this surprise me. (I once read where an actual Japanese commented that "Rules are excuses to the Japanese" and wondered once what he meant. Things like this, I would imagine.)
Where the fuck is my English translation of "Majimoji Rurumo," Japan? Hell, even the god damn fan translators dropped Henneko/Hentai Ouji to Warawanai Neko, where is my complete volume set of English translation Henneko manga? I can't seem to fucking find it, Japan.

It isn't even a matter of waiting. Some of this stuff will never see official English releases within my lifetime (if ever). I can't buy what does not exist. And I gave up on learning Japanese because I came to the conclusion that partial physics and string theory is easier to understand and learn. You have no one to blame but yourself, Japan.

@ukbeast89 Thank you for the affirmation.

If I knew an artist looking for commissions, I'd gladly pay for an editorial cartoon of a wolf announcer on WNN decrying "conspiracy theories" against the distinguished J. R. Wolf (with two pigs running for their lives in the background)... while the third pig sits safely in his brick home and nods.

QFT.

This logic would mean that if a cop doesn't ticket one driver, he's not ticketing anyone. :-/

I hope my speculation is wrong, and I don't think it's much more likely than any other scenario. All I was trying to point out is that there are multiple reasonable possibilities, and jumping to conclusions for vigilante violence would be wonder-stupid.

The right logic is. MD is like a flashy car who always break the road rules. the cops are on us while the others are just lurking and hiding :)
MD supports translator.
Translator gets money from patreon and other donation for "releases"

There are some lines on that pirating shits like "illegal releases/translations" that is getting money.

Unlike the other manga sites who "Steals something from a "legal" thief... MD otherwise spread the things that the legal thief stole.
Basicall we are like.. yeah spread that stolen stuff we will support you

Thus we got a RED FLAG..

Just my thoughts.

...smoochingmanga is the low-key site that steals, and MD is the flashy site that spreads what smoochy steals?

Just saying, I think that might be a little bit backwards. And regardless, "not DDoSing every manga site at once" doesn't really mean much about whether they would DDoS one of them.

...I don't see how the hell you came to this conclusion. If anything, MangaDex is a mint-condition 1995 Honda Civic in silver and Kissmyassmanga is a Lamborghini Gallardo in hot pink with uncensored hentai decals plastered all over it, gold/diamond encrusted $ rims with the sound system cranked up to 11 blasting N.W.A.'s "FUCK THA POLICE" on a loop doing burn outs in a school yard. I guarantee you that when it comes to egregious practices, MD doesn't even make the list. There's no ads here. Ads = revenue. And... there's more ads on Kissmyassmanga than there is manga. And ads full of viruses and porn, no less. Which do you think is going to get more attention?

Translator gets money from patreon and other donation for "releases"
Some do get tips and donations from readers. Some don't. But it doesn't matter anyway because the scanlators/translators aren't selling the actual releases. Let's say ScanlatorGroupA has a Patreon and takes donations. They get $10 a month on Patreon. Say their translator gets sick and for an entire month they release nothing. Chances are their patrons are still going to give them money. Thus they are not engaging in commercial business. So it would be difficult to argue that they are operating a commercial venture on the basis of donations and if they get those donations even without releasing anything. If anyone disputes this, just point to formerly famous Youtuber "Spoony" who at one time was making thousands upon thousands of dollars a month just playing/talking about games and movies and eventually stopped releasing content yet still getting Patreon money for years on end until even his most loyal fans left.

Secondly, the original copyright holder does have some rights and leeway to derivative works, but Fair Use is exempt and protected from this. (At least for any group that could plant a legal flag in American territory, anyways. Europe has gone to shit since Article 13 and the European Union). Fair Use is often misunderstood and it is very subjective when you start dealing with actual court and legal proceedings, but many things are in the favor of the translator.

For instance, this Fair Use Checklist to see whether what you're doing falls on Fair Use or not. Considering that translation groups aren't a commercial venture, don't necessarily get paid for the work, the work is transformative, can be a parody (those end cards with memes and stuff? ironically good precedent for transformative/parody status), and does not impact the original market of the work because... the Japanese don't speak much English and often there is absolutely no official English release.

If Japanese publishers and media groups think scanlation groups and Mangadex are making "illegal pirated manga" or some such horseshit, they need to make a few calls down to their legal department to tell them the gigantic fucking can of worms they're opening and they need to get off their lazy asses and start licensing and making this available in English. If they don't, they really don't have much right to bitch and complain. And if any Japanese company were behind DDoS attacks... Phew. That's more illegal than anything else being talked about here. That would be very, very, VERY dumb of them to do. But, sadly, some of them seem to think it's a good idea and have ties to it.

You do not get my point? scantalators "legally" steals from the CREATOR and PUBLISHER of the said manga manhwa hentais and wat so ever.
MD is promoting i mean is okay with scantalators.
illegal distribution is bad.. scantalators are distributing their "works" same shit.
We do not steal from kisshitmanga.. we are stealing from the publisher/creator

@definitionofinsanity

My point is.. they are getting money instead of the CREATOR / PUBLISHER... that's why original CREATORS hated scantalators
= getting some "sites" who are illegally distributing their works + getting some money on it.

Yeah they buy those magazines.. BUT WE DO NOT..

They bought one.. and they have like 20k reading what they translate.. how's that for money comparison?

Does anybody in here can actually read goddamn metaphors? or just want to "protect" illegal stuff ? seriously wake up guys.
