Pretty glad that at least there's some people that understands why MC is thinking this way, being in a similar situation to MC's "take 2" at life and having the context of how his "take 1" went really makes me sympathize more with him compared to Hachiman(since Hachiman is just built different). I like this series in a different way that I like Oregairu. Yes people I know it's a shock that you can like media that has similar(but also different) ideology, I know people assume you only ever should like 1 series for 1 topic but there's also the concept of enjoying multiple ones.

Cynical sarcasm aside... people really comparing Hachiman to Nanamura when there's a massive difference to their personality and situation... I guess it really just enforces that the general public just ignores the fact idea that "similar" problems have certain small "differences" that makes the way to "solve" them largely different... each person has a unique circumstances for themselves that there isn't a blanket solution that'll fit every situation, cause you know that's why therapist exists, to try and help each INDIVIDUAL get through their situations.

As for the jokey thing I want to leave to make things lighter... you guys keep comparing MC to Hachiman when MC is much much closer to Kodaka.

Fuck damn are the people annoying in the comments saying "but he just keeps getting jelous at the others because he doesn't have friends" "if he didn't want to make friends then why did he go to the travel" " he keeps saying he is a loner".

First did you even fucking read the first chap he already tried to make friends and he just didn't like it he prefered to be alone and if by him were he would be alone this life as well but the girl is trying to make him get friends (i mean that's not bad by itself but the way she is doing it by forcing him isn't). Second he went to the school trip because they were annoying him to go he also didn't go in his first life and he was fine with that. And third ok he does says so a lot but i kinda see that as every human tends to start doubting their own point of view when a lot of people tell you your wrong even if it isn't.

at least in this chapter there's people who actually try to understand other ways of living.

Not trying to undermine or anything (I honestly completely agree), but this MC died third year in high school. Depending on his birthday he may not have even been 18, traditionally you aren't an adult in Japan until 20, and brain development generally doesn't complete until 25 (with more recent studies suggesting brain development is a life long process and never fully completes). All just facts I think interesting.
ooof my mistake! must've imagined him being an adult already before he died. i guess that makes my argument a whole lot weaker.

Yeah. I think the issue here is that the FMC is right in the sense that every human being will become sad if they're truly alone. And she is trying to "save" her saviour just as he had saved her. That's why I assume a lot of the people here in the comments hate on the MC as he doesn't seem to "get it". And he should "get it" because he already somewhat "gets it" but keeps reverting to his cringey loner behaviour.

But the MC is not in the wrong here either. Most of his class thinks he's a creep and he doesn't want to ruin anyone else's school life simply by them being associated with him. And as far as I can tell, the things both the class prez and the FMC force the MC to do is simply not to his liking. He's an awkward fellow with asocial issues so of course being thrown into a very extravert-like group activity will make things hard for him. How can he enjoy his time with his classmates/groupies if it's too tiring to act as a social butterfly when you aren't naturally one thus thwarting any enjoyment that you could've had?

Though the MC is still awkward as heck - there's no denying that. But so are most real people. Some have more social experience, others are better at hiding it. But every human has his own emotions and views and being forced to change his lifestyle is not the best approach. But that doesn't mean that the girls who are trying to help him are in the wrong either. It's that their way of helping is aimed more towards more extraverted people and not such introverts like our male MC.

What our MC needs is not to be on friendly terms with his whole class. What he needs is a few good friends. But (if I remember things correctly) the girls are too hell-bent on having him make a lot of new friends and many happy memories with everyone in class instead of, you know, just being friends with him and accept him for who he is. He would gradually open up to be less asocial and naturally surround himself with good friends he made himself. But as far as I can see they aren't content by simply being his friends, they also want to "fix" him.

I'm repeating myself, but the girls aren't in the wrong here for trying to "fix" the MC, nor the MC is wrong for remaining the way he is. The girls are trying to help him in what they believe to be the right way. And the MC is trying to protect the girls in what he believes to be the best way. Their world-views are just different.
Based take, I agree.

I misunderstood the MC at first because I misremembered that he actually died not as an adult but still in high school.

But you might also be misremembering here. He didn't prefer to be alone. Read chapter 1 again. He wanted friends and a good high school life. It just didn't work out for him. In his third year, downcast, he said "I can't make friends even if I try." That means he did try but it just didn't pan out. He didn't make one friend for his three years in high school.

And now in his do-over, he doesn't try. He could have made the opposite decision and try again being armed with whatever lessons he learned from his first three years in high school, but I guess being still a kid with a weak heart and disappointment still very fresh, he goes for the jaded approach.

But his stubborn rationalizations for his decisions just keeps getting weaker and weaker for me considering that this time around, multiple girls are actually interacting with him and being friendly with him.

Reread some of the earlier chapters FMC already said this literal thing to which MC already answered "he didn't learn anything useful other than he doesn't really click together with anyone".

Like the main thing why there are actual "positive changes" in his do over is because of FMC, like the only ones so far that actually "clicked" with MC is Hoshigasaki and that's currently a "dead end route" until however they clear up the rumors which at the current state of MC's status in the school the only ones that can actually clean his image is the 3 girls.

I agree with you, he is a pain in the ass. But also, he didn't decide for himself to go back in time, and in fact, iirc, he was just going to accept death since he felt like he wasn't really doing anything with his life anyway.

So if anything is going to change it would have to come from Hanamitsuji, since he already gave up on living since before the regression and clearly she's the one that caused them both to go back in time (somehow, for some reason).

She's just not been honest with him about anything up to this point, so there's been no progress.
On the very contrary, shes just been verbal abusive towards him, calling him all sorts of shit for no reason. Imo shes past the line of "tsundere" and is on the line of just toxicity..

My point is, he did try. It's pretty clear from chapter 1 that he did want a great high school life. Like I said, it didn't work out for him. I'm not insisting that he should try again since I believe it's the initial premise of the story, and it's actually a more interesting approach.

But it's been too many chapters now, too many interactions that he should have realized he's not exactly alone anymore like before. There'd better be some progress in his character soon because they way he's acting, he's coming off as an arrogant and stubborn prick who thinks noone's good enough company for him. I know he's not thinking that but it's still the vibes I'm getting, like a harem protagonist drawing girls left and right but playing hard to get, and this guy has definitely not earned that.

I get your point here but at the same time from what I understand it hasn't been long since the time leap happened, it's honestly too early for someone who's willing to just go back to being dead to just have a character growth especially considering there really hasn't been any "event" to affect him "positively".

Finally someone actually trying to read and understand the story, you make good points but what he means when he says that he's a loner is that they can be with other people even if he is not there while the contrary can't be said the same, it's more like he doesn't think of them as friends as of yet, and as a personal experience it's not that he is trying to be a prick by not talking to anyone is exactly because he has already experienced being in a group that he understood he likes more being alone

I think he's got a solid basis to want to isolate himself, imho. He's just doing the typical Japanese kuukiyomi in a very self-sacrificial way simply because he thought he had no social value to begin with, i.e., nothing of value would be lost if he just bowed and conformed to the will of his peers. By staying alone, he could keep this value at a tolerable minimum, so that he didn't have to invest in anyone, and neither does anyone have to invest in him, giving everyone a freedom of motion and letting everyone win.

It's part of the reason why I think this story wouldn't work as well had it been set in other cultures. The culture of reading the air in Japan is just that thick and sickening.

The MC is trying to make the best moves he possible can without trying to ruin the social class of the three girls who know the truth. Like the situation sucks as a whole but there is literally nothing he can do about it. The rest of the class literally want nothing to do with him and are starting to get annoyed at the people who are even attempting to be nice to him. Like, I'm not sure if there is anything that can resolve that.

He's so stubborn to refuse help. He thinks whatever he's doing, being passive and a loner, is helping. Shiramine simply wants him to enjoy the trip with everyone, but Nanamura thinks that by interacting with him, she's ruining her reputation. But why does he think everyone thinks so shallowly? He never got to know people. Honestly, it's a bit insulting to hear him talk about people like that. It might be true, but come on. The way he's acting, by refusing help, just justifies what his class is thinking.

I'm sure he enjoyed his island tour by himself, and it gave him time to reflect. But really, he probably ruiend Shiramine's mood. and now Hanamitsuji's angry at him for trying to go away by himself once again.
