This is based and kino. Following for the drama as well.
Whether or not your old racial grievance is historically accurate or not is irrelevant since it's always used as justification to act against random people who "belong to the group" that did the misdeed. Mc's have full justification to kill those hit and run aliens, and the aliens who assault them. As for the humans who think of the situation as an invasion, well I see there point. But how do I justify killing individual aliens without catching them doing something evil? It's not like they're ever going to get their hands on those in power who are actually responsible for these huge events.N
No because it's reflective of real conditions in some of the countries in Africa. Take King Leopold III for example. Take the sustained wealth inequality in South Africa for another example. Though, Chinese force is also a part of modern extraction economics in Africa. The children of the congo that extract cobolt have it worse than an amazon worker tho.
Replace the aliens for the japanese, and the earth for Korea and youve got something analogous to 1930's-1950's Japanese occupation.
Hoh boy. Got both sides of the "culture war" squad here allready:
1. Talking about "alt-right" outside of the US, makes limited sense. Racism is global, but it's political associations and implications differ from place to place.
2. We only got one chapter so far. It's a bit early for the pitchforks.
3. The author is very clearly playing arround with ideas from the racist thinkspace.
- "Aliens are stealing our women."
- "The economy is bad" - with a implied - "because of aliens."
- "I cannot speak out against aliens because of fear of persecution."
These are fairly global racist talking points.
There are also parts that don't fit, like portraying the aliens as saviours (even as fake saviours) - and the whole "we can eat the aliens" things.
So far this smells like the typical "evil protagonist" story, where the first half is going to be about revenge fantasies, while the second half is going to pivot towards "actually it turns out, the aliens are just people and now we have to deal with all the shit we caused in the first half".
Yeah, and I’m all here for it.So...
Is this manga some sort of xenofobic alt-right metaphor?
This whole first chapter seemed rather strange in its ideias and simbology.
This might also be the right take, its kinda easy to jump to xenophobia but this might be a class warfare sorta thing. The next chapter looks to be in a affluent place so we'll see where it heads.People it's quite literally "eat the rich" the manga!
This isnt abt eat the richAll these people weirdly fixated mapping this onto human race, but what sticks out to me is the class warfare. This is literally "eat the rich" privileged class. Like seeing someone even mildly bougie and having no empathy due to spite. There's no moral so far. Nomamoto has no ideology but she starved and now thinks killing is swell. Kitami's whole ideology is a revenge fantasy. Scary true to some punks and revolutionaries.
Since the aliens are so boring looking, and boring as characters, I don't expect this to run many volumes. But it's gonna be messy for a year or two. I'm glad this satire got past Shueisha. No surprise it's a Manga Plus original, seems a mite too incendiary for magazines.
Elaborate maybe. Why even reply if you're saying nothing more than your ❌ already did? Eating the upper caste is happening, lynching them. Class tropes are very common, but I wouldn't say Eat the Rich applies often since Robin Hood scale thefts, mass vandalism, and/or killing wealthy people are controversial. If you don't recognize class antagonism until it reaches Matrix, Andor, or Squid Game levels of blunt and word-of-god confirmation, I think you're missing out on fun. This isnt abt eat the rich
this manga has censorship on official english tranlations
People talk so much about the British being invaders but when you look at them for about 1000 years they were constantly being invaded and settled. Bretons into Romans, into Anglos, into Vikings, into Normans. It's pretty funny when you think about it, it's a never ending cycle in human history.Complaining about "savior" foreigners exploiting you and wanting revenge. Well, I'm far from a history major, but sure I'll take a shot:
- If you're Japanese, then invaders are Americans.
- If you're Korean, then invaders are Japanese.
- If you're Chinese, then invaders, are probably British, Japanese.
- If you're from a bunch of countries around China, then invaders are probably Chinese.
Etc, etc. Every civilization gets invaded.
