I knew that lion was bad news, anything that promises you'll get stuff you want is out to get ya when your guard is down
Laius really is a perfect target tho, well until he decides he wants to know what demon tastes like
Thanks so much for the chapter!

Speaking of eyes, I don't know if anyone's pointed out this page yet, but it seems suddenly relevant. Also look at the eyes under the wings on the sorcerer's book.

Re-reading the Winged Lion chapter after this one, and I’m convinced the winged lion is a demon. Also, I’m wondering if Laius is the one it’s after bcoz it made a curious statement about Marcille in the former chapter: it sensed ‘great potential’ in her and that she ‘would make a great dungeon’. Could Laius’ peaceful living alongside monsters lead to a similar Thistle situation where the demon isn’t getting enough desire to eat (since its mostly fulfilled), and that it’s real target is Marcille?

@E-kun

You got it backwards, if the translations are correct.

Namely simple and straightforward desires aren't very satiating for demons.

Demons love the complex and convoluted desires, it's why they labeled Thistle as an 'epic' demon lord. Course that does beg the question, why is the demon interested in supplanting Thistle? Perhaps the winged lion really was imprisoned by Thistle, and he's looking for the first stooge to come by and release him.

Laius's whole party is a full course meal for the demon.
Appetizers: Chilchak (something basic like wish for treasures), Senshi (if he still feels regret about his first party wiping out in the dungeon he might wish for them to be revived)
Main dish: Laius (Rescue Farlyn, make a monster farm/kingdom)
Desserts: Marcille (Rescue Farlyn, learn more about dark magic)

The real succubus was the winged lion all along holly shit! or at least it is just another one of the monsters that capture your heart that were described on the cover of Chapter 60, which among other things is titled Winged Lion.
Just how the goat demon was using a magic mirror to plant the seeds needed to harvest the desires within Misurn, this current demon could be using the Winged Lion to plant the seeds needed to harvest the desires within Laius, so maybe the winged lion is not the demon itself, but is working for the demon, and is just one of many monsters that feed on the hearth, like the living paintings and the mermaid, all of which already failed.

Also that double spread of the final form of the goat demon was incredible.

To think all the captain needed was a foot-massage to fall asleep, Kabru is probably the best caretaker he has had since he became a dungeon lord. Could it be that the reason Pattdohl, Sishys and the others don't go the extra way is out of embarrassment or maybe because they fear that them getting too attached may break the hierarchy of ranks? they seem to care for him, but this chapter made it look like Misurn hadn't had a proper bath for a while, even getting the gloss of his hair back.

@SHTJ mmmh the grimoire being the demon is a good candidate, is a perfect form to captivate something like a wizard and scholar, it also conveniently works with my theory that the winged lion is a minion working for the demon to entrap Laius.

@Kanol Ooooh that's a great catch! in that case maybe it really is the book, since the eyes do match, even the cyclops demon had eyes like those! but the winged lion doesn't has them.

@CountBaltorious but if the winged lion is the actual spirit guardian of the kingdom, why hasn't he revealed to Laius more about the inner workings of the dungeon? how do you explain his connection to kensuke another monster of the dungeon? when the monsters and the richness of the dungeon are products of the demon when they grow? how do you explain that he supposedly says to have no true form or name? a guardian spirit should have a name at least, also he confesses to being a guardian of the kingdom within the dungeon, but we now know that that kingdom is probably a fake reproduction made from the wizards desires, because the dungeons exist to entrap demons not to guard kingdoms, and finally why would the guardian spirit offer Laius a fantasy that would make him the next dungeon lord while keeping hidden the fact that doing so would put him at the mercy of the demon?

For me all those questions seem to point towards the winged lion being more of a succubus that is seducing Laius so that he can fell prey to the demon, rather than a genuine spirit guardian.

Ya I suspect the lion is indeed the demon who grown bored with the desires of the current one. Yet at the same time I’m wondering Why he doesn’t do away with the current one of himself and makes laruis/marcline the next dm immediately. Also still don’t trust the elves, long lived knife ear bastards.....
Perhaps thistle did successfully suppress the demon with ancient magic and the elves are hunting that kinda magic.
But let’s be honest, Laruis is gonna eat dat kitty one way or another with a tangy bbq sauce on it.

I'm not so sure the elf is trustworthy. If he's been given the task of ending the dungeon, this may be a lie to make doing so and stopping Laius more appealing.

While I am suspicious of the Winged Lion, and he probably is a daemon. I have tried to play the devil's advocate and respond to your challenges (because I want the Winged Lion to be a guardian spirit).

Q1: if the winged lion is the actual spirit guardian of the kingdom, why hasn't he revealed to Laius more about the inner workings of the dungeon?

A1: The Winged Lion is locked up and currently has limited ability to influence and/or communicate, as stated he only could do it as Laius was so deep in the dungeon. He has communicated via prophecy and dreams, both notoriously imprecise. The one time he communicated directly to Laius was in a dream, and Winged Lion was aware that Laius would forget most of the dream, so trying to explain detail about the dungeon that do not leave strong impressions would be counterproductive. Moreover, the same question would be valid if the winged lion was a daemon.

Q2: how do you explain his connection to kensuke another monster of the dungeon? when the monsters and the richness of the dungeon are products of the demon when they grow?

A2:As the Winged Lion stated, he was instrumental in the formation of the dungeon, and things are further complicated by the fact that there is likely a daemon in the dungeon even if the Winged Lion is not, likely the Thistle's (The Mad Sorcerer) book.

Q3: how do you explain that he supposedly says to have no true form or name? a guardian spirit should have a name at least...

A3: The major monotheistic faiths have no problem with having a god with no displayed form, and despite God having a name (Yahweh) the Jews and the Christians almost never use it, so they act as though He does not have a name, and most of the common congregation would believe that there is no name. In the Hellenistic faiths, there were instances of offerings and alters built to spirits that they knew neither the name nor the form. Hence, to me there is no great stretch for having a guardian spirit with a displayed form but no known name, after all how frequently do people have a name associate with their guardian angel (monotheistic) or family or the imperial genius (roman).

Statement: ...also he confesses to being a guardian of the kingdom within the dungeon, but we now know that that kingdom is probably a fake reproduction made from the wizards desires, because the dungeons exist to entrap demons not to guard kingdoms...

Response: I have to disagree... The inhabitants of the kingdom (ch 46-47) identified the winged lion as the kingdoms guardian... the winged lion (ch 60) merely introduced itself as the winged lion. The inhabitants actions were what you might expect of the populace of a kingdom dragged into a dungeon complex... including doubt in the prophesy, mental and spiritual fatigue, and fear of Thistle. The sum of which does not make make sense if they were constructs for either Thistle or Laius. Moreover, a new dungeon could be created with a purpose other than just containing the daemon.

Q4: ...Why would the guardian spirit offer Laius a fantasy that would make him the next dungeon lord while keeping hidden the fact that doing so would put him at the mercy of the demon?

A4: ...because perhaps it will not. The Winged Lion may be able to handle the daemonic book, or he might be planning to feed the daemon to Laius or eat it himself at this point.

I have a feeling things will work out in the end. Some tragic/horrifying stuff might happen, but I have faith in our idiot team not to be taken over by the labyrinth demon. Like maybe eating the dungeon monsters will make them immune to demon magic or something?? Or the sister will have figured out how to save them? I am still unsure about Thistle, but I really have a strong feeling the story will end with something ambiguous and generally positive, like everybody loses their goals but comes out alive. And learns the true meaning of friendship!!
