Also, it feels like the trope where kali is being honest and is changing her methods after seeing two of her daughters running away in despair, actually increasing exposure to the outside world and trying to spend time on leisure activities like sightseeing. But portrayed as an antagonist to further a backstory until it culminates in a touching reunion.

I wonder how the Amazons' country can be so powerful when they are throwing away 50% of the war potential. If we assume in that universe men and women can be equal fighters due to magic, it means the Amazon's keep only 50% of their true potential by only sticking to women. What on Earth are the other countries doing when they have such a huge edge but apparently waste it all, falling below the Amazons?

@Kaarme that happens if you use the concept of a western current family and society.

Take into account that they said that men were all slaves or for breeding. The breeeders are probably like stallions and there is a few of them. On the other side in any civilization with slaves they vastly outnumber the free citizens so it could be a lot less than 50% are women.

What I am thinking about is that given the rate they kill their warriors to be able to level up so much, it should reinforce the use of stallions to breed enough to kill on the arenas, and that not all the time it ends in the death of one side. Also, if the amazoness use this extreme way to level up, compared with Orario's each adventurer killing thousands of beings at the dungeon, what extreme way Rakia uses to be up to Orario's power level.
Probably the way both use is just numbers.

@Abetillo Slaves would be next to useless to war potential. If they were significantly powerful and numerous, they would rebel.

Other countries wouldn't need to do nearly as much as the Amazons (who are turning their own country into a veritable hell on Earth) to gain the same power because they would have both men and women in their fighting force. Amazons either slay the newborn males, kick them out of the country, or keep a few of them as slaves. In addition to that, like Dirtbug said, highly talented people are leaving the Kali familia country because they don't like to live in such a terrible place, just like many smart people were leaving the nazi Germany and the communist Russia (and in fact today's Russia) if they could.

amazons aren't humans, they are a race by themselves, races can't breed between each other, aside from humans that make half-blood kids, and amazon that always birth amazons.
they are a race entirety female, have strong physical abilities and are naturally good at martial arts, they always sustained their population by kidnapping, enslaving and raping men from other races.

amazons are basically goblins

@redcolonel Races are merely subgroups within a single species. That's the definition of a race. If two creatures can breed with each other and generally create fertile progeny, they belong to the same species. Those Amazons ought to be a race of humans. They kidnap males of other races from elsewhere to breed with them. Of course if you actually know for a fact that in the Danmachi universe they only ever give birth to female babies, then you have a solid point I can't refute. If that's the case and they keep careful track of the (few) males the women breed with, to avoid incest and genetic degradation, then they could avoid everything that I said before, aside from their own citizens getting sick of their hellish country and leaving.
