@sedition In addition to what @AnonDePlum wrote, there's also the simple fact that even emotionally healthy people will often defer to "authority." You need only look at how there are many that never question "authorities" like Dr. Fauci, the CDC, the NHS in the UK, and even the WHO, etc.. Add in panick, fear for your loved ones, and an accute sense of your own lack (real or otherwise)... it's not unrealistic that someone would go along with it and doubt their own convictions.
@Lamdin was it really "irrational" though? Given all that's going on this chapter making people angry seems plenty rational to me.
