Finally! I was always more interested in seeing the old company crumble under corporate goonerism than what the heroine was doing at her new company. Companies that are more focused on the line always going up and continuous growth, rather than stable profit and doing right by their employees, are a scourge in modern societies and are a virus within our capitalist systems, and should really be demonised far FAR more than they currently are.

But getting back on topic, the ending of the last arc was satisfying too; I think this series works it's best when it acts like a reddit revenge story rather than focusing too much on any individual character. It's the revenge and comeuppance that's the meat of this series (at least to me anyway).

Profit is what allows the company to stay in business, without it employees don't get raises or bonuses.
However, a good manager/director balances profit with employee work conditions so both are well maintained.

This guy is just a bad manager/director with connections, and no people skills.

That company was doomed long before this guy came in, he is just the guy that's biting the bullet, if she had died in an accident before being fired they would have ended in this same spot, trying to force another miracle worker that can do a full team worth of work by themselves

He is the guy that fired her without understanding how things worked, but the guy that had her employed before him, drove her crazy enough to the point she started doing cosplay, the problem is not this particular suit

Like you said, she had made herself too invaluable as an employee by making mission-critical software that can't be maintained by others. That is a failure on her part.

Unless, of course, the other staff actually was taught the needed knowledge to maintain it as well, and the 'issue' here was them quitting in solidarity removing the backups from that company, too.

I don't think she trained the others on it, the whole system depended entirely on her being the only know capable and knowledgeable enough to deal with it

But the fact that no one bothered to have a fail-safe in case something happened to her, well yeah that's partly her fault as the lead developer, also for keeping to take more and more job even things outside of her field, apparently like 2 chapters ago she said she was acting also as the office counselor, so those things are on her for not putting boundaries

But it also goes back to her bosses at the time for not considering the option either and not keeping tabs on how things are operating

before we complain about Satou does not training replacement pls re-read the chapter 1 and:

  • The company don't bother to allocated any additional personnel to her team at all, she somehow became the sole person who had to do all the thing. And I bet she did raised the issue about the lack of replacement but the higher up will dismiss that because "muh, one person can do it, why bother add redundancy"
  • When they decided to fired her, she offer to do the hand-over + training to new replacement personnel before leaving but they decided to let her go ASAP (which pretty stupid in my opinion)
  • At least, she left the manual but if you are developer then you will known that the manual can't help much LOL

so the current result is what the manager reap what they sow. You can't blame Satou since she already tried but they don't want then that be it.

I don't think she trained the others on it, the whole system depended entirely on her being the only know capable and knowledgeable enough to deal with it

I think it because she is the sole person is left on the team that working on the system, sure that she does seat a long with other but they belong to other team and she can't asked them nor tell them so she can train them.

The problem is the manager from before, absolutely this buffoon and company culture.

BEFORE:
-> she was constantly working late at night, exhausted mentally and physically
-> only cope by cosplay
-> AND put her all in creating the system to automate her work, with help from colleagues, and done after 5 YEARS
-> to be dismissed right after

Yeah, shit CANNOT be her fault.
The sys is NOT mission-critical lol, lmao even. Remember, the place where she used to work is NOT a software development company! The sys was created to AUTOMATE her work.
Not to mention the fact that the manager clearly was made aware that they can make it work with another 10 more ppl in chapter 4 but he refused.
So he think: if quantity is not an option then quality should suffice, and go for the talented guy here. But did the guy want to do the work of 10? Bro passed the vibe check.

The hell you mean the sys is shit bcs it can't be maintained by others? She made it so HER work is easier! If you want the software to be used by other then frikking paid more, hire ppl to specifically do THAT!
There is NO WAY this soft was on company's initiative, nor was there any official support. She must have made it in her own free time there, managers prob didn't even see the need for one, employee either cope with workload or GTFO. From my view, she was barely hanging on, doing the work of 10 just to maintain the sys and mayyyybe update it occasionally, thinking she has plenty of time to work on it, she's the one to create it right? No way the comp would just do it out of the blue right? Worst case there will be a transition period, yeah?
Manager FAFO. Has no idea what's what but still fire ppl willy nilly. She's just another cog in the machine, what the worst that can happen? If 1 can make do, then 4 will absolutely crush it.
Well, only way now is to build it anew from scratch, but he's not going to have the time lol

Agreed that watching the manager single-handedly destroy himself is satisfying.

I don't see it exactly like that. Profits are just a slice of the value generated by labor. The workers produce the stuff and it becomes money. Some of that money is paid back to the workers' compensation. Some is invested back into the business in materials, upkeep, overhead, training, etc. The leftover is profit. Value Generated is bigger than profit generated.

So profit is always the opposite of paying workers raises or bonuses. I agree that a good manager can distribute the value produced by everyone's labor, in a way that keeps the company effective.

Where profit comes in is the existence of ownership/rent seekers; Capitalist investors who use their control of resources to extract rents from the labor of others. If workers and managers had control of resources, they wouldn't need rent-seeking investors in the first place. All the profit would be distributed to operations and pay.

So far this series has done a good job of following the downfall arc of the ones who kicked her out. It's not over the top it's just the logical conclusions of what was lost when kicked her out and their reasons for doing that. It's rather refreshing to see a reasonable downfall arc after having a slew of over the top downfalls

The implication I got from the first chapter is that the moment the system started working everyone else was let go and Satou only stayed because the overworked manager must have convinced the old boss they needed someone to do maintenance and Satou was the one with the best knowledge.
At that point there is no incentive, budget or people to make the system easier to understand until she gets dismissed and booted so fast she can't write a proper manual or train her replacement. Back in the first chapter she even asked to remain until the end of the year to hand over the system but was denied so yeah.

And for saying she made it hard on purpose... that happens when you're the only person working on the code, it starts getting less and less readable because you understand everything and it is faster to just use temporary(that become permanent) names to everything, and you always tell youself you will clean-up the code later and properly document everything... spoilers: a single person almost never manages to go back to the code for the clean-up

She did tried to do it by sacrificing her accrued vacation in exchange to not be let got till end of the year. But the hr couldn't do anything about it. So she wasn't given any time at all to share all her knowledge just a guide book with no full instructions
