It's a shame this story doesn't have some kind of mystical power like magic or something that could extend her life.

To be fair, so far they have talked about magicians and non magicians as different races in this series. Seems like the ability to use magic is innate and not an acquired skill. Then again, that might just be the "racism" as to why they speak about it that way

Every once in a while the artwork like expressions remind me of Nodame Cantabile. I wonder if this artist was an understudy or something.
