Fun fact : 目から鱗が落ちる (me kara uroko ga ochiru), "to have the scales fall from <someone's> eyes" (i.e. to see something clearly for the first time, in a metaphorical sense) is actually a Biblical phrase that was adopted into Japanese. The source is the New Testament (Acts 9:18), and it originally refers to how Saul (Saint Paul) was cured of blindness when baptised.

Oh cool. I figured it was an idiomatic translation, but it’s very interesting to learn it’s actually a direct one
