I can't really buy that people would actually just discard their weapons like that. Not to mention that weapons aren't cheap, they're going to go back without any weapons?
(considering what they came to do, coming with numerous weapons is pretty much redundant)

I completely agree. I know cosplayers who'd spend days perfecting their foam, wood, and sometimes metal swords, spending hundreds on craft materials alone...it'd be ludicrous to think they'd just toss that out after a single Halloween party event, unless it's made-in-china plastic toy junk.

As for the fantasy world side, I bet those swords are the lowest quality not even worth keeping if they keep getting thrown away nonchalantly en mass, likely with those people hoping their weakest equipment gets enchanted and become useful. Otherwise, it'd be pretty stupid to throw away perfectly good swords, even dull or rusted ones. That's like throwing away money itself. Speaking of money, instead of going to the trash, he could sell all that stuff online to the HEMA reenactment community, fantasy cosplayers, and the modern sword reproduction markets to make a pretty penny, even as strictly wall-hanger decor...but given how dumb and oblivious he is within this story-setting, I doubt something like that is ever going to happen.

@Solipsist my guess, is the rumor went out that the lady in that lake would enhance a specifically cheap type of weapon, like the guide says it needs to be under a certain damage amount or something like that, so they buy up a bunch of disposable iron daggers, basic longbows, to make it rich on the resale.

On further thought, I remembered that the two most powerful weapons of the first Fable game, were Iron swords with so much raw power poured into them that the blade cracked, and turned to glass.

I mean, it's possible they throw such unwanted equipment away if they have something like Diablo inventory system, or generally speaking, they have limited inventory space, and those thrown away ones are not their main equipment. By clearing out such unwanted equipment, they could clear out spaces in their inventory if they come across other better stuff during their journey.
