I still don't get their "oh no, we can't date yet" shit, even his friends tell him in quite a direct and roundabout way how dumb it is. Sure, they do not need to overdo it, but it could help relieve stress if they didn't need to worry about their relationship status and that, in turn, also helps with exams. But it's a manga, so logic usually takes a backseat.

That would be idiotic, even for Kanamaru sensei. She has managed the romance and teasing part very well. It would deeply surprise me if it went that way.
My guesses are:

• Jirou passes the exam, but (to give it some sort of twist) something fatal happens to Akari (she dies or whatever). And Shiori decides to stay with Jirou so he doesn’t fall apart.
• Jirou fails the exam, and then after some internal conflict (Jirou realizes he cannot keep running away blah blah), he and Akari will move in together for real.
• Jirou aces the exam, he and Akari finally sleep together, but then Akari leaves him since she realizes she might be an obstacle for Jirou’s ambitions.

Hopefully I’m wrong but those are my guesses.
