I find the representation quite accurate with todays climate around media. For a few very good and independent reports we have a number of "yes man" that are ready to smear whatever is the current narrative of those above them. It's called corruption.

No, not quite. It isn't about being anti media and pro military. It is about showing that is the media wants, it will spin the news the other way around.

Is the glass half full or half empty? It depends on what is the current agenda of those running the media show.

@Talismaster Here's the problem, the portrayal is extremely one sided. While you will always have the sensationalists who will jump to conclusions, you also have journalists who will wait for the facts to become available. This manga completely ignores journalists and journalism on the whole in favor of sensationalism. This is just as bad as the "Fake News" the author obviously hates so much. I realize that the author was in the military and writes from that point of view, but that doesn't mean that I won't comment on the inconsistencies.

@degenerateafro And every single one of those "reasonable journalists" are useless and irrelevant.

The character of a group is decided by whichever members are the loudest/most active. So long as the "reasonable journalists" aren't drowning out the "sensationalists" whether by superior broadcasting or by economic superiority, then fraudulent sensationalism is the definition of journalism. This is a principle that can be observed in action every single day throughout the entire world.

Just like how there must be "reasonable soldiers" in the Imperial Army, and every fucking one of them is useless and irrelevant compared to the pillaging shitrags, from Prince Zorzal to the fuckers in this chapter. Just like how every "reasonable soldier" in NATO is useless and irrelevant concerning the Blue Helmet rape epidemics that have continued for decades.

Sitting on your butt being "reasonable" while jackasses steal your flag and do evil in its name deserves nothing except that the inevitable hunters do not actively hunt for or (hopefully metaphorically) shoot at you.

According to Tvtropes, mass media in japan tends to be left leaning with an anti-JSDF bias while the author is right leaning with a military background, the depiction of media here like other things in the manga is part of the author's political propaganda agains't left wing politics and anything that gets in the way of military expansion back to pre WW2 status.
And this is after they had to rewrite the WN extensively, so imagine what the original must have been like.

People need to realize most journalist, and reporters are BUSINESS(WO)MEN. The majority of them are not actually interested in telling fully accurate stories, in any nation. THey are interested in keeping their jobs. And their networks or papers are interested in ratings. There are good media people out there, but they are not the majority. If they were we wouldn't pick and choose what papers and media outlets we goto people. This is an accurate representation of the media. Because the responsible reporters wouldn't be causing trouble for the JSDF, so they wouldn't be noticed, they also don't serve much point to the story, they'd just be parroting what the politician said, why do we need two panels saying the same thing? They wanted us to see the storm on the horizon, not some rose tinted "Mission Clear" screen.

Anime didn't exactly jump to conclusion, unless you meant conclusion of this specific battle/event, then yeah. There's still like... 4 or 5 volumes of stuff after this, I think.

@din - they're being run by a pastiche of Caligula and Nero, this sort of short-sightedness and desire to grab loot is to be expected.

Devout follower of a god with a walking, talking, empowering apostle? Highly unlikely that goth loli doesn't take action after getting aroused by a dangerously high level of murder-f*cking.

Honestly, I don't mind the representation of the media in this chapter. Sensationalism is a thing, and after a battle and with all that chaos, reporters fighting for getting the most shocking image or making confused assumptions with the scarce information available is bound to happen.

But after chapter 71, I'm not hopeful.

That chapter went great lengths to paint reporters such as that Komurazaki guy in a bad light. The worst part? The reporter's attitude was right. We know that the JSDF is good because we've seen them in action, but the reporter was right that armies have indeed manipulated information and restricted journalist access to sell the image they want to sell; that people protected by the JSDF aren't going to bite the hand that feeds them; that there must be many out there with a very different opinion of them; that everyone has a bias and that neutrality in journalism is an illusion.

And let's be honest: the JSDF have done things without parliamentary approval, they've killed thousands of people and have plans to meddle in internal affairs of the Empire and exploit their resources. Whether you think they were in the right or not, the general public won't find it out if reporters just wait and show only what the JSDF wants to show.

The media in this manga is quite accurate to the media today just look at coventon and the all out lie the media been pushing to push their own agenda.

On a side note Japan needs a military to counter China but not too much cause in the end will just switching one super power to another the just need enough to counter the other, but doubt the will be the deal the world isn't so sweet.

What are you lot getting all 'but muh immersion' about the media for? Japanese media (and politics, and the relationship between the two) is quite different to US/EU media and this manga's depiction is nowhere close to being outrageously different to how media is usually expected to behave in japanese manga/drama/movies.

@Rannchan nah, i'm not so worried
if a nameless side character is doomed to die, they will die swiftly
the old man have enough screen time, he even prayed to Emroy
we all know he will be saved

But this is exactly what mass media does, misrepresent a situation for click/views, then issue a silent update with the correction that no one will read.
I've seen multiple news sources I trusted over the years misrepresents situations I was either close or very informed about for sensationalism or political bias to the point where I trust Pew News more than real journalism.
