I see. My complaint in the previous part of this chapter was that their offer didn't benefit Souma at all. That was never the point. It was to threaten Souma with the breakup of his kingdom should he reject the offer. The path seems clear, though. Go through with that other Humanity alliance and take the bite out of the Papal State's bark.

Wow, a holy/religious nation acting like a piece of shit in manga? Color me surprised /s
Given the recent nature and actions of some religious organizations (including official ones), i’m not surprised. There’s limits to doctrines set in a very different past that somehow manages to survive to the present, mostly by suppressing non-believers like a CK3 game.

One thing that really hurts religious propaganda and bs in this series and limits their potential threat rather heavily. The national broadcast crystal. The crown holds a monopoly on instant nation wide relaying of information. This is a huge advantage over a group like the church as he has far more control of information. He is also been a great rule and loved by the people, he could very easily tell them what is happening and the threat. Yes there is the hardcore believers, but they would very quickly get rounded up or at the very least be immediately isolated. Hell he isn't even need to tell them to stop believing in the faith, just that their are those trying to take advantage of the faith for their own gain. There are a lot of options with so much control over information. Its such a brutal disadvantage that churches of our world never had really had to face so one-sidedly as in general churches controlled information. One of their strongest tools is in the opponents hands, not theirs, this makes them so much less of a threat than real life ones.

They literally studied all his girls and thought "we can build a superior bitch"
But they didn't know about Juna, so Mary is a blend of the other 3 ladies.
Which got me thinking:
It's not about sending a beautiful woman/bride.

It's about, "we know about your preferences, and can provide the exact, and if needed even replace the originals".
Morally questionable church organization probably has secret laboratory of morally questionable experiments.

His conclusion sounds a little far fetched NGL. Why wouldn't they send an attractive young women especially if she's also supposed to be a bride / bribe?
It's not only extra honey on whatever this deal is, it's also a partial threat.

If not discovered, no harm, the spies that gathered this intel will continue to spy, possibly get better since they aren't good enough or fast enough to report back the appearance of the new wife.

If it is discovered, that plus their stated backup plan of finding a new person to dub "the saint" doesn't just mean finding a new country. It could also mean replacing the leader of THIS country. And with spies about, and violent zealots...escalation by the church could mean assassins and terror attacks, or maybe even just propaganda to oust him as king. What they want is not him, but the power of the position he has in the country he leads. Hell, with the right powers to make these doll, maybe they could literally make a body double of the king. Even a retaliation of outing spies can act as a measure by the church of how stalwart or paranoid he is or becomes.

That's, of course, if they meant to tip that hand. The fact that they didn't know what the unannounced wife looked like, is likely going to be a measure that he uses moving forward. Imagine if she is announced, and then shortly after that a new messenger comes, and she's incorporated her looks...

Juna's not a new wife, she's been a wife longer than Roroa, however because she is the kingdoms official idol that fact is a secret to the public, so I think that more so implies that the spies at least aren't in his closest inner circle for now, that being said still a very precarious position to be in.

While you are absolutely correct about the strict monopoly he has on instant communication, you are either forgetting, or undervaluing the real-life examples of how zealots react to truth and facts that counter their beliefs.
He could very easily do vastly more harm than good by trying to expose the religion's intentions.
