because that is usually what happens in these kinds of settings. breaking off an engagement with a member of royalty (especially a crown prince) is basically a death sentence for her and her family politically. They’ll be viewed as being disloyal to the king and no man will marry her out of fear of angering the royal family. Her family’s best option in this circumstance is to disinherit her immediately and possibly send her to a nunnery claiming she had a mental breakdown (though that’s easier said than done given her power level).
