That has considerably more going on in its plot and character relationship dynamics than this one. Much more forward momentum--just better written in general.

This series was surviving mainly on it's interesting premise but didn't go anywhere that interesting with it and took it's time when these series need to prove themselves faster. The slow burn only works when there's other narrative momentum to carry the series and this didn't really have it. It wasn't fully a comedy series and it's plot didn't have enough meat to it either, so it was stuck in this middle ground. I did like it though but it needed a stronger direction than what it chose and better execution.

Okay, what is this "the story hasn't gone anywhere". Like, chapter 10 isn't that long ago. Almelia has finally open her heart and Serina finally find self-worth after repeatedly talking down about herself.

She "finally opened her heart", and yet absolutely nothing has changed as a result. She's still just as conflicted and wishy-washy about all of her relationships and what she wants to do in the future.

That's what some people here mean when we say "the story isn't going anywhere" - it's not that literally nothing is happening, it's that there are these significant events that should provoke SOME sort of change in the characters or plot, but once the immediate drama is done it's back to the status quo - and as @Rafalga said it being a monthly series means this constant status quo is hampered even more by the unfortunately glacial pacing that a monthly series often ends up with.

It was announced by the author. It's ongoing because there's another chapter to go, so it's ongoing in that sense.

Just like Rafalga say, is a monthly serie and you need a hook and keep it, like yes it did go somewhere, when it was already done for lol, it had a hook thats why it was able to keep going after the 1st volume, the sales were probably alright, but it obviously didn't keep it and shit the bed during the 2nd volume chapters (6-10) that made people lose interest, and this is the result

If the author made the serie go somewhere earlier, instead of just going around and leaving it until the eventual axe date, probably wouldn't have happened so early

Some are certainly exaggerating the "going nowhere" aspect of the series, but I will concede that the momentum of it has been a snail's pace - and I think that's the key thing some are forgetting. Like, aside from the brief snippets of how the school and magic systems work, this has mainly been a fluffy series of an isekai-ed gyaru unintentionally rizzing up a villainess. Heck, we've had numerous chapters where the game's MC only has a few lines and NO development, just reduced to a yes-girl! I don't think it's entirely wrong to say that the one instance it introduced a radical shift - the brief amputee debacle in Vol 2's second half - was likely done to stave off the impending axe.

And like, that initial formula could've worked as like, a first step process. Plenty of romcoms/isekai/yuri have done that. But those grow - or at least, further hone those elements - into something else that keeps reader attention and establishes its longevity. The fact we have only met one of the supposed many Male LIs in this otome game setting speaks volumes about that problem. Compare the first volume of this to, say, ILTV, or (to keep it related to recentish monthly series) Muryoku Seijo to Munou Oujo, and it's a night and day difference.

anyway this long ramble is really just an extension of what @SrNevik was saying: It either should've leaned into the "com" or "rom" part more with more dashes of worldbuilding, instead of being the worst of both with a backdrop that could've easily been replaced with something else entirely.

Well, to add my two cents to the discussion, I think it would've been fine to let things build more between them and let things develop at their own pace so it doesn't feel rushed like some other series.

Author needed more time to cook, but nothing stops the axe, sometimes.

Unless the author/artist say something to support it, calling that an assumption is already generous.

The story flows far too well for it to feel like a rash decision.

Chapter 4-5, Serina's Focused Magic Fortification. Both its ability to heal and in a fight is shown and told, and it is emphasized that she is still weaker than nobles and since magic power is thought of as the cornerstone of the class system, it is natural that the prince's power will be even stronger than what she has faced before.

Chapter 7, introduced the prince.

Chapter 8, show the cockatrice connected to Almelia and the prince's history along with causing tension between the main heroines.

Chapter 9, the cockatrice appears and caused the prince to panic, ended with Serina successfully blocking the attack but still lose her hand (power level already told in chapter 4-5).

Chapter 10, used the healing ability told in chapter 5, though with pain. Neatly end Almelia's engagement that neither of them truly want, and not only restore relationship but also become closer with Serina.

That is why, unless you want to count every serialized story as staving off the axe, I disagree.

Aside from that and the engagement being off, Almelia also become closer with Estelle and become something more like a friend as opposed to the previously at best "friend of a friend" or "teacher and student"-ish relationship requested by Serina. This is why Almelia open up to her a bit in chapter 11 and this is explored again later in chapter 13.
