This shit pisses me off so much. Sick of this immature mangaka abusing this trope. They aren't able to convincingly write human interaction, and they have that young author problem of only ever being able to depict friction in the plot at a 0% or 100%.
On a psych note, which is my field, yes, trauma can be invisible, and flare ups often follow a trigger, but not like this. I get that it's a manga, but this shit is hilariously/frustratingly over the top, and the author has not earned the right to make him have evil jumpscare hallucinations because his old band got mad at him for choking. Come the fuck on, man.
It's also harmful to his character, because his choice to engage in anxious withdrawal has already hurt someone close to him before. Not only does he choose to do it again, he does it right after he heard her say, "thanks for being here and not abandoning me," and then immediately abandons them.
Basically, this dude fucking sucks. He's routinely self-absorbed in his own insecurities to the detriment of others.
Better writing would have him recognizing his habit of wanting to retreat here, and biting it down because he already learned from Haimiya that it does more harm than good. Instead, we now have to yet another "Haimiya gives him a harsh pep talk" scene.
Awful writing, full stop.
